Wow I have never been so happy that my cat is a lazy lump of first that wont eat anything but kibble, and while yes I do.find the occasional vomit ball on the carpet its usually cause she decided to give snooch from two lumps a run for his money on the eating. In seriousness though I hope the kitteh is doing as well as could be expected for as much as wrong with him.

We keep our kitty on hairball control treats to keep her for pucking hairballs. As for being picky I got her a pet fountain because she doesn't like old water in her dish (just changed that morning).
