I noticed this morning one side of Tag's nose looked a bit...odd. I called Mr Jedi over to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and sure enough, that side was a little swollen. I figured he'd probably gotten stung/bit by something and it would go back down in a few hours. When I came back to check on him, his eye on the same side looked puffy and that side of his tongue was starting to swell. Cue panicked phone call to the vet's office to see what I could do about it at home since we can't exactly afford a trip in right now. They said to give him 1mg/lb of Benadryl and if he wasn't better or was worse by 3pm-ish (office closes at 4pm) to bring him in. So I braved WalMart on a Saturday to get medication for my dog (I don't keep Benadryl around because it doesn't work for me).
Now I'm doing the wait and see while Mr Jedi goes to a meeting. I was supposed to go as well, but I didn't want to give Tag medicine and not have anyone home to watch him. It's about 1:30 now, and if he doesn't show an improvement by about 2:30 or 3, we're going to the vet. The silver lining in all this is he's not acting too bothered by it. He scratches at his nose occasionally, but other than that, he doesn't seem to notice. I don't think it's an allergic reaction; I'd expect to see his whole face swell up if that were the case. The fact he's only got one side puffy makes me lean toward an insect sting.
So, prayers/good thoughts for my Tag that he doesn't have to go to the vet and this goes away on its own.
