If you post a picture of the frame, or even a model number or description, I'll see what I can do to help you match it. Frame size information is also helpful.

I have also had dud contact lenses in packs, make the eye very sore and just have to change it immediately.

Blas, my contact script is -7.5 but I quit wearing them a couple of years ago and just wear glasses now. My eyes are super sensitive and I had to use Patinol, at $60 a month, in order for my eyes to tolerate the contacts. I don't wear makeup, but I've never had a problem showering/shaving "blind", even when I wore my contacts, I didn't wear them in the shower because the steam would make them stick to my eyes. We don't have eye care insurance, so have to pay out of pocket completely for exams and new frames/lenses. I get mine at the Walmart vision center and it's not nearly as expensive as at private eye doctor offices. I can't imagine not getting the ultrathin lenses, though, they would be soooo thick and heavy otherwise.

Anyway, back to your eye watering thing, it sounds like an episode of Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or more simply "dry eye". Since the condition is aggrivated by wearing contacts, the best thing for it (unfortunately) is to rest the eyes for a few days, meaning, wearing glasses instead of your contacts. The other possibility is that the duct that allows excess tears to drain through your nose, was swollen or blocked, causing the tears to flow out of the eye.
        Don't wanna; not gonna.

It sounds to me like either allergies or a corneal scratch. I suspect the latter only because it becomes more irritated after you take your lens out and oxygen hits it full-force. But if it didn't feel like there was something in your eye, it probably wasn't a scratch.
