Yeah, I burn candles a lot, plus I use the fabric refresher spray for like my chair and mattress...anything that can't be thrown in the washing machine.
I have to be careful because I have a pet lizard, so she's kind of stinky. As soon as a mess is made, either my husband or I clean it, but the lizard smell still remains. So I burn candles...mostly unscented or some spicy/tasty smelling ones. Lizard goes nuts if it smells too tasty though...she get's hungry I suppose.
Anything aerosol though, I get a migraine. Plus lizards (and I believe birds) can get lung infections from aerosol sprays.

even tho I don't have a sense of smell...smells can still make me sick. I's weird I know.
It actually makes a fair bit of sense to me: it's not the smell per se that makes you ill. It's the compounds reacting with your system (immune system in the case of an allergy). You can still inhale the compounds, even if you can't detect the smell.

Oh, safety tip: many of those "plug in the wall" air fresheners are fire hazards. Better to light a candle that you'll keep an eye on and snuff out when you leave the room/house. Or keep a clean house that doesn't need smell-good stuff.
Or you can use one of those candle plates that have the on/off switch instead of lighting the candles.

My mom and I bought a couple of those at one of the craft stores last winter . . . I love mine. It's right in the bedroom on the nightstand and I turn it on when I come home and it stays on until I leave for work the next day.

I love the smell of lavender.

For house-scenting, I recommend those Glade fake candle pyramid things. Lights like a candle, and spreads the scent, but no spraying, and no flames.

As for the spray in the eye thing, part of me wants to sympathize. But that's the part of me that doesn't remember my OC spray training in the military.
Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.
