a while back, my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and it had metastasized in her lungs. last week, she was having breathing issues, so my dad took her to the emergency room. turns out she had pneumonia. she stayed in the hospital for a couple of days and her doc took an x-ray of her lungs. the cancer has pretty much taken over. last thursday, they said she had a few weeks left. she came home last night.
this morning, a hospice nurse came by to go over medication and oxygen and all that. once my mom woke up and the nurse got to meet her, she lowered the estimate to a few days instead of a few weeks. so this week, my brother's flying in from chicago, her father is flying up from arizona, and her brothers are flying in from california.
i'm glad my bosses are really cool and letting me randomly take of at least a week of work. the sucky part is that there's no way The Boy can take emergency leave and fly in from iraq. we aren't married, so according to the navy, i don't matter. yeeeeah...fuck you, navy.
right now, my mom is on oxygen and she's pretty much sleeping 20 hours a day. all we can do now is make her comfortable.
and i've been eating a lot of sushi.

that. Your mother is dying, the person who's cared for you most in this world (arguably). At least sushi isn't dangerous to your system (like drugs), nor will it make you gain (or lose) weight horribly. I'm sorry she's going away.
