Help Anime Fans!

I always swore I would quit cosplay when I turned 30, or when I became pregnant, whichever happened first. As it happened, I turned 30 and got pregnant the same year.

Anyway, I am on a crusade to lose the last of the 60+ pounds I gained with my son. My reward for hitting my target weight by April is to pull out my Ghost in the Shell cosplay for Anime Punch.

In November I'm going to a little local con called Sugoicon (I'm actually running a couple panels, if anyone else here is going to it...).

I dragged out all my old cosplays today to give myself motivation. Out of curiosity I tried a few on...and they fit! Kusanagi definitely doesn't fit yet, but it will!

So I think I should wear one or two to Sugoicon This is where you guys come in. Which one(s) should I wear?

Nausicaa (Nausicaa of the Valley of Winds)

Reika Mishima (RahXephon)

Rin Asano (Blade of the Immortal)

Kino (Kino's Journey)

I may wear Kino anyway, just because it's a really detailed costume and I love the show even if no one else has ever heard of it.

I'm not really familiar with any of those characters, but I have to ask, why would you quit cosplaying just because you turned 30 or have a child?

You are pulling out four old cosplays. It is not like you are trying to chose between two of the current hot anime/manga characters. Good thing, as you would look like everyone else there.

If you don't think one cosplay is better than the others, then draw straws or jan-ken-pon.

If you still want our help, we definitely need pictures.

I'd say its between Kino and Nausicaa. The other two, from the pics I found, are basically just normal clothing, and I can see you having to explain that yes, you are actually in a costume, when wearing them.

Being a Miyazaki fan, I have to vote for his works, but not Nausicaa. Princess Mononoke's leading lady had an intersting costume that was distinctive (no having to explain who you are while wearing it), and very simple.

Hardest parts would be the necklace and mask, I think.

not really, FIMO (modeling polymer) FTW. mask can be done with almost any modeling clay/putty on a simple plastic base.
I wish i had the money/time to travel to cons and do some real cosplay.. our local group of 'gamers have done some great hallowe'ens. but it isn't quite the same.

Heh, San was my first-ever cosplay back when I was 19. If I knew where the outfit was, I would pull it out and maybe do that one. I still love it.

I am so behind on what's hot right now, most cosplays I see, I don't even know who they are or what they're from!

I retired originally because it just seemed like a natural point at which to do so. I knew having a baby would make me gain weight and change my body shape. And most anime characters are between 15-18 years old, and I twice that now! So I thought I would ease off and get into RenFaire costuming or something (which I did). Also, anime cons' demographics get younger all the time (or I get older...maybe ) and spending a weekend with squealing 17-year-old yaoi fangirls was no longer my vacation of choice.

But since I've been home with the kid, I'm desperate to get out, and doing panels is way fun, so there you go. The cosplay bug has bitten again since I dragged out that Rubbermaid tub.

Did you hear that Studio Ghibli is talking about closing? =( Apparently if their next movie doesn't do well enough, they have plans to shut down entirely... I really hope that doesn't end up happening.

Going for Nausicaa too! And really Taboo? That sucks. I hope not. They made so many awesome movies...
