Yeah, you could always say stuff like "What? The defendant doesn't worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster??? HERRIIITIIICCCCK~! He is so so guilty of ... what was it again? JAYWALKING!"
That ought to sabotage any and all plans they have for you as a impartial/sane juror.
Hey, if they're going to screw you and not follow the law, then you have to fend for yourself. Or call the media. Or the judicial court above yours and sue them. (... wait. Does that even work? Probably not.) Point is, fending for yourself.
EDIT: I believe the court has to compensate for travel and/or time and/or money lost, as part of the final court costs. I could be mistaken.

It's actually not a good idea to say things like that. It's a well known fact that most people want out of jury duty and would pretend to be overly sensitive or say silly things to get out of it.

I'm just going to be honest, hopefully being a little too conservative works in my favor. Although I have two weeks worth of trials, I know I can't get out of all of them.

They don't generally like people who are aware of things like the fact that you don't have to find a person guilty, even if you are 100% sure they did it, if you think what they did was justified.

They also don't generally like it when people are aware of the fact that a jury recommendation is just that; a recommendation. While the judge almost always finds with the jury, the judge can choose to just toss their finding and go with his own if he feels like it.

The fun stuff you learn in the legal classes you're required to take for a court reporting major.

I swear if it's not one thing.....

I got the jury duty taken care of. I was proud of myself, sat down to play some WoW before work.

I hear a knock on my door. It's my energy company.
They shut off my power for non-pay.

I know this is my fault, and there's nothing the tech can do. I'm just lucky a friend let me use his internet. Then I can't find my work CD. I race home, get my alternate CD and race back only to find out I WAS USING IT AS A COASTER!!! And I still got in 10 mins late.

Please, God. Tell me what I did wrong....
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

Aw, geez. I take it you have a laptop, rather than a desktop? Or a generator at least... awesome friend you have to let you use his/her internet! I'm just glad the power company here doesn't shut it off if one was to miss a single payment... yay StatePowerCompany! (not actual name of company)
EDIT: Yay for taking care of Jury Duty!
