  • I am 1/6 done

With my quest to hike the New Hampshire 48 4000's!

We just got back from the granite state (so bummed to be back) but we did snag 3 new mountains (and one old one)

We got Hale, Willey, and Jackson. Hale and Willy were pretty easy...Jackson SHOULD have been easy....but we went painfullly slow and there was a scramble at the top I was not expecting. View was totally worth it.

    So I have:
    Washington
    Tom
    Field
    Lafayette
    Lincoln
    Hale
    Willey
    Jackson

But alas, I do not go back til May.....perhaps Monroe next?

Oh, and on a different topic....Riley has a diagnosis......Feline Inflammatory Bowel Disease...and he needs a prescription cat food. Ugh!

    Erm... No he doesn't.

He just needs a script for prednisone. Should be something like 1/4 of a 5mg pill twice a day, depending on weight.

It's a lot cheaper than prescription cat food anyway.

Well, I think I'll go with what my vet (and v-tech buddy) recommend with the food. Pills were an option, but he's a pain in the ass with pills and last time they were far from cheap. He's only on the "diet" for 6-8 weeks, so it's not terrible...just more Riley cat craziness.

Pilling a cat is a pain in the ass. I definitely agree with that.

And the prednisone is only expensive if you get the veterinary pills. You can get a 3 month supply from a regular pharmacy for around $5. Most vets won't tell you that's an option though.

Re: Riley - Have you looked into switching to a raw food diet?

Check into what's in the stuff you're feeding him, too.

My vet tried to tell me that our middle cat, Widget, would have to go on prescription cat food for the rest of his life after he had an issue with crystalized urine. (stupid cat tried to hold it 'cause he didn't like that the catbox wasn't clean when we were out for a weekend >_< ) We did that for two weeks, then just started feeding them a higher quality food (most cat food on the market is pure crap). Sure, it costs more, but all of the cats are a lot happier with the change in diet.

I'm not keen on the raw diet idea...I don't think I can touch raw meat...

Ri seems to like the Prescription Diet food. 1 cup a day, 6 lb bag. Supervised feedings....guess that mean he travels with me when I visit the bf every other weekend

Ok....I am very ready to go back to the mountains.......
