  • Songs about hope (Need your help!)

OK guys, in about four hours, I will be DJing an event online for Purple Day (I'm sure a lot of you know about this event). I want to fill this three hour event chock full of songs about hope. Songs that tell you it *will* get better, no matter how bad it looks right now.

So here's what I need. I need you all to tell me what songs have helped *you* get through your roughest patches. What songs have reminded you that there is hope. That things aren't as bad as they look. Slow songs, fast songs, upbeat songs. Anything that made you feel better, helped you in some way, touched your life.

ETA: You can also look up "Spirit Day" It's all over Facebook and Twitter right now

Yes, I do, and I'm wearing purple and a purple ribbon right now. And rainbow tights.

Hmm. All I can think of right off the top of my head is Lily Allen's "Fuck You," and I don't think that would be an appropriate song for that venue.

The song "All the Things She Said" by t.A.T.u is kind of inspiring to me...maybe that would work?

This might sound weird, but Dance In The Dark by Lady Gaga is one of my hopeful jams. I just googled around and it turns out (seemingly) its about a girl in an emotionally(?) abusive relationship. The Monster Remix with neyo (called Beautiful Monster) and Bad Romance, if your audience has a sense of humor.

      I Will Survive, too, naturally.

Also, and I'm not particularly recommending this, but fight music gives me hope. When I feel like I can't get up and get out, I put on Lil Jon and listen to "What you gon do" and it makes me want to fight the world and take everything I deserve.

I had to look up what Purple Day was. Poor color choice......

Well, purple is also the color for Domestic Violence Awareness (October is DVA month), so I'm not going to just be focusing on the suicides but DVA as well.

^Maria Mena: "He's Hurting Me." for domestic violence...it's not hopeful, though.

            Linkin Park "Iridescent"

            Meatloaf "I'm Still Alive"

I had to look up Purple Day as well and first I got an event for Epilepsy Awareness, but it was in March. So I figure it is the GLAAD event instead.

Its about gay suicide? Shit I googled and still got it wrong. I'd put that in the OP. All the songs still apply though.

Faint by Linkin Park if youre going the rock route at all.

                  Wow.

Playing on my radio right now is "Flesh and Blood" by Boingo. It includes the lyrics, "Every cloud has a silver lining, and every soul is tender to the touch." Also, their song "Stay" is most likely about sticking it out even though life is tough. "It Only Makes Me Laugh" might be another possibility.

Then, of course, there's "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel. I love that song.

Basshunter's "I Can Walk On Water, I Can Fly"

                  ^-.-^

Thank you all for your song suggestions. The event was a hit, and of course, I ended up breaking down on air. Let me just say that my marine's love gives me hope when I feel hopeless. I'd like to add another song to this list. Mandy Moore - Only Hope

I'm wearing a purple shirt right this very moment. "It Gets Better".

                            And it does.

The Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns

                            Through The Rain by Cinderella

As a folkie, I'd be pretty remiss leaving out this one:

                            We Shall Oversome, Pete Seeger

And I managed to find the King of Rome. One of my favorite songs, if not the number one favorite. I can't listen to it without crying. Because it's so beautiful and the song itself "rises up on shining wings."

Just because the event's over doesn't mean I don't want this thread to stop. What songs give ya'll hope? What makes you feel better when you just want to quit? I never told ya'll a few of mine. Other than the Mandy Moore song, here are a few others:

                              Lindsey Haun - Broken
Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World
Avril Lavigne - Keep Holding On
                              Mariah Carey - Hero
Nickelback - Never Gonna be Alone
