My Dad bought me a car!
When I got home in the summer, I began complaining to my parents about the costs of getting around the city where my university is located. The transit runs at odd times, and it costs 10 dollars one way to get to a grocery store. Not to mention, the cost of getting the bus to the ferry for me to go home on holidays. I announced to my parents I was going to buy myself a car. I was planning to take the year off to think and work, so this seemed the ideal solution. I could work all year and save up enough money for a few semester of school and a used car.
By the end of the summer, though, I had decided to head back to school in January. Between missing my friends, and the fact I was going to have to start paying my loans back since i was out of school- I thought it was the best option. This meant that the car was out of the question. There was no way I'd be able to make enough money for a car and school in only a few months.
Two weeks into September, Dad starts tossing around a lot of "ifs" around. "If you get a car, you can't let your friends borrow it." "If you get a car, you can't drink and drive." "If you get a car you have to save money, and help pay for it" etc. I thought this was weird, but initially thought nothing of it. I mean, I hadn't gotten a PS3 for Christmas or my birthday because money was tight, there was no way I was getting a car.
Nonetheless, Dad keeps talking about rules for if he gets me a car. He even starts talking about selling the Zombie (the car my brother and I share) to help pay for a car for me. Stating that he will in turn get my brother a truck to replace the Zombie.
He starts talking about a Chevy Aveo he saw at the place where he got his van detailed. He keeps saying he will "check it out" but that he's "only looking," Last Friday he takes me to the place and gets me to test drive it. I told him I liked it a lot. So he made an offer on it, got a car loan, and gave it to me.
I'm still in shock. I have my own car. Which will be going to university with me. In another province! I feel spoiled and grown up at the same time. It's an odd sensation.
My Dad is so awesome. I'm still really stunned. Especially since he and I are going to be buying me a new computer in the next few weeks. I guess I'm going to have to do really amazing in school this Winter to show him I deserve all these gifts.
So, what should I name my car?
