  • A Lucrative Business?

Had these kids in my line, probably from about six to twelve buying varying styles of duct tape. (Some with checkered patterns, tie-dye, etc.)

I guess they make wallets and sell them door-to-door in their neighborhood. They were making duct tape wallets when I was in high school but I've yet to see anyone with the ambition to try to sell them.

From what I could tell they made enough money on a previous attempt to justify buying more.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a get rich quick person, I just have to wonder if I could get into varying duct tape accessories as an endeavor.

Make sure it wasn't the guilt angle. Its the same way schools raise money by selling overpriced chocolate? Whos going to tell Cute Neighborhood Kid no and ruin his dreams of being a Big Businessman!

Well door to door I'd agree. But if I set up a table full of duct tape wallets, the convenience of the novelty without the work might score me some purchases.

Duct tape is cheap, couldn't hurt to give it a shot. I might try making a full hand bag or something.

Ohhh... Lots of people, I assure you.

I suspect you could do something like an etsy shop with duct tape accessories.

I know a guy who has a duct tape suit. He took an old suit he'd apparently gotten at the thrift store, as well as a tophat and cane, and covered all of it in duct tape. According to him, it took 2-and-a-half of those jumbo-sized rolls.

My boyfriend makes a new duct tape wallet for himself whever the previous one breaks. Due to the different varieties of duct tape, they always vary in patter. He always gets comments on them, but they do take a while to make. I suppose if you get 5 wallets (a number I've pulled out my ass, as I'm not sure how much duct tape is needed per wallet) out of a role of 1.50 GBP duct tape and sell them at 1.50 each, there is a 400% profit (please don't hate my maths if it is wrong, my head is thinking of getting this written so I can get to lunch)
But if it takes all day to make, 6 GPB per day is a pretty crappy wage

Better than my math, I assure you. And certainly not something I'd pitch to the Dragons or the Sharks anytime soon.

But it'll be interesting to see those kids swing back in again this week.

I used to make duct tape purses in high school, even had one for prom. Made a duct tape skirt, wristbands, wallets, everything really. It's just easy. Right now hubby is making me shurikens out of duct tape, and they're pretty cool.
