Be careful with Capital One. Not long ago, they started punishing me for not using my card, but charging me "inactivity charges". So even though my card is nearly maxed out (but because I make a little over the min payment every month, there is a little left over) if I don't spend at least a few bucks every few months on it, I get zapped.
You might want to find another card to move the balance to and then cancel the Capital One card.
    Don't wanna; not gonna.

Being debt free will not hurt your credit, having no revolving credit will. [....]
At this point, I'd be happy to have no credit cards if that was the only way to get rid of this debt I've been carrying for TOO LONG.

Even if that gives me a lower credit rating for a while. Or for a long time.

I did open a new credit card account with an itsy-bitsy limit. I use it to pay bills each month (I just charged my auto insurance monthly payment on it last night) and pay it in-full each month ... so far.

I'll be sending my letter with the cut-up card sometime later in December once I've paid it off.

Then I'll be able to apply that 'extra' money to the next card to try to pay it off by the end of March. (This next one will automatically close when the balance reaches zero, because I refused to accept their interest rate increase last year.)

      Bang, bang, bang.

      Like dominos.

      I'm excited.
