I know I need the mental break from work, but the past few nights have been just awful. And I can smell smoke on my coworkers when they come back from break. Well, actually, I can already smell the difference between someone who does and someone who doesn't.

I never cared for the smell, it's not that it smells good, but the slight smell of it just taunts me. It's most certainly going to be for the best when everyone can't smoke at work anymore.

Congrats, Blas. As hard as it is, it's more than worth it.

My office hasn't gone smoke free yet, but they're threatening it. They have been getting more strict about where people can smoke, and now anyone who does has to pay more for insurance.

That I don't agree with. That's flat out discrimination in my book. My place is supposedly smoke free but you can go to the public sidewalk out in the weather and smoke there....I stopped before that went into effect though.

Soon, no one will be allowed to smoke anywhere on the premises, including the parking lot and other outdoor areas.

I'm sure salaried people (people who are allowed to leave on break) will leave to smoke, but hourly slaves who can't leave are stuck cold turkey.

I hate break time now. I'm all alone. We get in trouble if we don't take our breaks, but I don't know what to do anymore. All of my friends still smoke. It's either walk around the building, go potty, get a few drinks of water, do crosswords, or stare at the wall, or read yesterday or the day before's paper. And eat alone.

...But on the bright side, I have saved $27.something and I have saved myself from smoking 87 cigarettes in the 6 days since I quit.
Consider a Kindle for your first purchase with the money you saved by quitting. Surely out of Amazon's millions of titles, there is something that interests you. BTW, most newspapers are automatically loaded to Kindle.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I tend to agree. I don't have a problem with people smoking outside, as long as I don't have to walk through them to get to the door. Their choice.

I'm late to the party, but hey, that's great!! Hang in there, you can do it!

Your lungs started clearing up right away. You're doing a wonderful thing for your health! And hey, the extra money can't hurt, right?

I second the vote for a Kindle, or a Nook, something like that. Or you could come on this site for a bit if you have access at work.

Congratulations! Good for you! Now open up a savings account and put all the money you previously spent on smokes in it and then a year from now buy yourself a "year-free from ciggarettes" celebratory gift.

But on the bright side, I have saved $27.something and I have saved myself from smoking 87 cigarettes in the 6 days since I quit. I have a little calculator bookmarked so I can check it every day. I smoked a little more than a half pack a day (I put 14 in there) and I paid $6.25 per pack (estimated, I always bought the sale ciggs at $1 off, normal packs are $7something, but I rarely had to pay full price, I always found something on sale). But it doesn't have a spot for the exact time you quit smoking, so it says I've quit for 6 hours longer than I really have.
Here is what you have to look forward to:
                      $6.25 * .5 pack * 365 days = $1140.63/year

Almost $100.00 per month. That is a good chunk of a car payment. Maybe a better apartment. Put it in a good retirement account and you could have $100,000.00 by the time your 65 (I am hoping I did not under estimate your age).

Keep reminding yourself and keep doing it.

                      Go Blas!

But if you were hypnotized, how do you know they didn't just make you THINK you're not smoking?

                        Seriously, congrats!

I still smoke since it's my only chance to retire early.

                          Congrats blas!

And to everyone else, let's take the discussion of higher insurance rates for smokers to fratching, please.

                            Congrats!

My mom stopped smoking several times but finally quit three years ago last October. Even three years ago cartons were $23 dollars each, her quitting has saved around $600-$800 a year.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.
