No pattern. Unless it's the fact that if I eat, I get reflux. if I lie down, I get reflux. If I live... I get reflux...

No... but I'm going to see a gastroenterologist on Dec 3 for the Upper GI.

Gastroenterologists are fuuuun. I have to see mine on Dec. 9 to find out why the fuck I'm getting worse, too. And it might actually be my gallbladder lol. Who knows.

Sorry you feel so yucky, Wenchie. I don't have reflux, but I do have gastroparesis, and that sucks, too. Everything GI-related sucks.

I take Prilosec once every few days to keep mine under control. And yes, it hurts like hell untreated. My pain was so bad at one point that they thought it was heart-related and had me on nitroglycerin tablets... which actually HELPED!

I take Prilosec once every few days to keep mine under control. And yes, it hurts like hell untreated. My pain was so bad at one point that they thought it was heart-related and had me on nitroglycerin tablets... which actually HELPED!
Haven't had the nitro tabs but when I first started having issues with reflux it was so bad my stomach felt like it was on fire and when the flareups would be awful, I'd almost double over in pain - it was that intense. It also didn't matter what I ate or drank, everything irritated and it was even worse at night. I've had to do the sleep propped up on pillows and it would still flare up.

Called the doctor's office and a nurse had the gall to suggest fiber caplets. It wasn't constipation, which I was having slight issues with as well (I had started on a new medication for pain and was having some side effects) but the belching and stomach pain wasn't going away.

Two weeks later, I called back and ended up with an appointment that afternoon. Dr. put me on Prilosec (which back then was only by prescription) and by the next afternoon (after taking the first one the next morning when I got up, before I had anything - even my morning coffee) I was starting to feel some better.

I also ended up off the anti-inflammatory meds too and switched to yet another pain pill. He suspected my acid reflux was brought about by medication aggravating my stomach lining (which I had been on assorted meds off and on for about 5 years at that point) and the reflux was the result.

Even stranger . . . that June I was transferred to another store and within a couple of days I noticed I wasn't having the pain and acid, so I stopped taking the meds for a couple of days to see how I'd do. I didn't have any major flareups, so I went off the Prilosec.

I still take an OTC pepcid or Zantac if I have a flareup, but here lately at times the flareups are so bad that I'm either drinking cold milk to help settle my stomach in addition to taking 2 of the OTC pills at once. I'm also trying not to overeat to help keep the flareups down.

Hopefully the upper GI will find out what's going on and you'll get to feeling better soon.

Wenchie, this is just a suggestion, and you have nothing to lose by trying - have you ever given thought to eating low(er)-carb? I suffer from horrible acid reflux, and was taking Nexium daily, and when I started eliminating starchy foods from my diet (breads, potatoes, pastas, cookies & cake, etc,) I was able to cut down the Nexium to once a week. Just a thought - it worked for me, it might help! Hope you feel better soon!!

Thanks for the suggestion, but believe me, I've tried everything.

And even with the prilosec and/or protonix, the reflux is still so bad that I'm throwing up bile.

I hope they fix me. I really really do because this is making me even more stressed out.

Hernias can cause reflux, too. That's part of the reason I have it. I have a small hiatal hernia. And of course, stress can make pain worse and even cause flare-ups.

Let us know what they find out!

11 1/2 days until I have the Upper GI - and I've started throwing up stomach acid again.

Oh, dear. Wish I knew something else you could try!

Thanks. My kitties vetoed death. So did Raven. So I propped up my bed to see if that helps me sleep better.

Oh man, Wenchie. *winces* I THINK I've only thrown up bile once [I had the stomach flu...when I'd thrown up everything in my stomach, I threw up bile for 4 more hours...it was horrible], but...that was enough. I REALLY hope you're better soon!

*hugs* wish I had some advice, if you find a way to not throw up bile, please pass it along to me. Would greatly appreciate it. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
