I'm out and about today getting some Christmas shopping done, and on impulse decided to wear my USS Intrepid ball cap (a US WWII aircraft carrier that is now a museum ship in New York City)
And in the space of 20 minutes, I randomly encountered not one, but TWO former crewman from that ship! The first stopped me while I was grabbing a bite to eat to ask if it'd served on the ship (sorry no, it was retired before I was even born), and briefly told me about his time on the ship during a Med cruise in the 60s. The second saw me and stopped dead in his tracks and asked if I was "real." (he was also wearing an Intrepid hat) Not quite sure what he meant by that, but I had to explain that I got the hat at the museum.
I have a few different US navy ball caps and only once ever have i bumped into a crewman from one of those ships. Never TWO in a single day.
