  • Nordstrom pre-holiday sign.

I don't normally shop at Nordstrom, but my roommate's mom told her about this sign, so while I was at the mall I had to go look for it. It is a big wall sign just outside the upstairs entrance from the mall.

It's a little blurry (the sign is behind glass and the pic was taken with my phone, then I had to resize it to make it small enough to upload). In case you can't read it, it says:

    From our family to yours,
    Happy Thanksgiving.

We like celebrating one holiday at a time,
so you won't find our halls decked
    until Friday, November 26.
Join us then, when we open our doors
    to a festive new season.

    We are closed Thanksgiving Day.

Judging by all the commercials and ads Thanksgiving is turning into another shopping day.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

Hehe, it'd almost make me shop there... if I could afford it.

That is quite decent of them. To say nothing of the fact that it'll help alleviate some of the holiday burnout on their employees.

Does anyone know if all Nordstroms did this or just the one by the OP?

I just read in the paper today that in Suffolk County, NY, legislation is being proposed that would make it illegal for retail stores to be open on Thanksgiving Day, to allow store employees time to be with their families instead of at work. It would be targeting larger stores because, according to the story, they started it and all the small stores feel compelled to open as well, to keep up. A store that violated the law would be fined. They are only proposing a $1,000 fine though, which I doubt would stop a lot of the stores.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.
