  • New Buffy Movie... And Why It's Going to Suck

So, for any other die-hard Buffy fans out there, do you remember back when the show ended they said they wanted to do a few movies to tie up the loose ends?

Well, it's not happening. But we ARE getting a reboot. None of the original cast will be there. Joss Whedon has nothing to do with it. And the writer? Just some chick who claims to have "really loved" the series when she was in high school (obviously not enough to see why she is setting up something she supposedly enjoyed for failure).

Look, you want to write your own story about a show you liked? Great, go to fanfiction.net like most people who aren't good enough to come up with something original. I admit it. I wrote a Buffy fanfic (but had the good sense to not publish it and will never speak of it again). But you, no, you went the extra mile and somehow sweet talked the WB execs into cashing in on the Twilight-induced vampire craze.

I love how they say fans have been "eagerly awaiting" Buffy's return to the screen. No, you ignorant jackasses. We've been waiting for our Buffy to come to the big screen. Not some other thing that kind of resembles it in some ways. For that matter, we gave up on the hopes of a movie a long time ago.

Joss Whedon sums it up quite nicely.

It's going to fail so bad! Joss Whedon walked off the set of the original 1992 Buffy movie, (which, admitedly, is so bad it's kinda good...)

Fans want to know about Xander and willow and Buffy and Giles and Faith, not whatever abomination will be in the new movie.

I may watch it out of morbid curiosity, but I may not as I can't/don't read comic books or graphic novels so I don't know what is going on in 'Series 8'

Sad sad sad. Is Hollywood having this much of a hard time coming up with new movies that they have to do reboot after reboot?

I also heard they were rebooting Spiderman!

Everyone knows no one in Hollywood comes up with their own ideas for movies anymore. Everything is either a poorly-made adaptation from one medium to another or storylines ripped off of other movies and the only things changed are the names and the setting.

          broadway musical

i think my favorite part of whedon's response is
This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

That musical has jumped the shark so many times before it's even opened. I typically love Julie Taymor, but this just.....reeks. However, there have been rumors of rebooting the Spiderman film franchise, as well.

I love Buffy as much as anyone (and Sarah Michelle Gellar more than most), but I have to point out that the TV show was itself a reboot of the Kristy Swanson/Donald Sutherland movie.

Things get redone. This is life. Welcome to it.

I don't personally get why they are doing a reboot of Spiderman, as Spidey 3 was just 3 years ago, but whatever....I was personally shocked at how good Tobey Maguire was in his 3 turns as Spidey, so who knows?

First, Galaxia icon for the win

Second, I recently heard of this. I do want to see it. Of course to see how much of a suck it is and you better believe I'm not watching it in the theater. I'll wait til it's on instant watch on netflix, 10 years from now.

I love the Buffy series. It has it's ups and downs but it's a good show that I will rewatch.

The new Batman movies are reboots (well, more like a third-boot) and it paid of pretty well.

What other industry can you pull millions in profit by re-releasing the same thing over and over?

At least it isn't Stephanie Meyer that's writing the script.

He walked off the set because he was informed he could not have Buffy set fire to the school with students and teachers trapped inside, thus murdering innocent people, to kill the vampires, and have her walk away with "OMG you just murdered 200 innocent people and 10 vampires-you're a national hero!"
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

If they touch Firefly or Serenity, I've no doubt they would have many, many browncoats beating down their doors.
