It was thirty years ago today...
Today, as most of us know, is the thirtieth anniversary of the death of John Lennon.
There is a John Lennon Wall in Prague, which began during the era of Communism. I went down there to pay my respects, and found three photographers taking pictures of a small shrine showing a very good painting of Lennon; the shrine had several candles burning, and a few other tributes.
Eventually, I went over to the candles to see if I could light one that had gone out. The photographers began snapping away, since I had provided a human element in the scene. One of them was wearing a Reuters coat. I gave another one my name and email address, so that he could send me a copy of a photo he'd taken. The one in the Reuters coat asked me where I was from - not only the country, but the state and city.
So I may be online somewhere, in front of the John Lennon Wall, even as we speak.
Thirty years. I cannot believe it. Thirty years.

"A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.
But february made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.
I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died. "I can only please one person a day, today isn't your day, and tomorrow doesn't look good either.

That's the 1st time I've heard anyone think it was about Lennon.I guess it could be a logical conclusion if you weren't around in 1971.
I was in high school at the time.Yes,I'm old,get off my....well,I don't really have a lawn,more a collection of prairie grass,cactus & rocks....well get off it anyway!

Paul Simon's song "The Late Great Johnny Ace" contains these lines:
On a cold December evening
I was walking through the Christmastide
When a stranger came up and asked me
If I'd heard John Lennon had died
So the two of us went to this bar
And we stayed to close the place
And every song they played was for the late great Johnny Ace...

I played Imagine at midnight as December 8th struck. I always remember John Lennon before i celebrate my birthday. I may have only been 3 hours old when he died, but he has struck a chord within me."Oh, the strawberries don't taste as they used to and the thighs of women have lost their clutch!"

It may surprise a lot of the members here to learn that before I got into metal, I listened to a lot of Beatles stuff. This was when from when I was about 11 - 13. While I'm not into them nearly as much as I was, I still think they were great, especially for their time period. Back then, it wasn't as common for bands to write their own music. They also had a very wide range of musical styles, and if they were around today, some of their stuff might have been able to be considered metal, or at least hard rock. Hell, Motley Crue even did a cover of their "Helter Skelter."
Another thing that I thought was really cool, and very few other bands have ever done this, is that they didn't have just one person singing. Most of the time it was John or Paul singing, but sometimes George sang, and even Ringo once in awhile.
I was still very much a fan back on 12/08/1980, and was pretty upset when I found out what happened to John. It's hard to believe he'd be 70 if he was still alive today.Sometimes life is altered.

I am not sure there is a Heaven, though I'd like to think so. If there is, what I wouldn't do to visit for a day. Think of the great people, great music, great comedy, and such you could experience in just that one day...Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.
