You and a whole lot of other people, m'dear. Regardless of financial issues maybe you should leave just because you aren't happy there. I know around here there are usually 5 other complexes just as good as whatever anyone is living in that are cheaper at any given point in time. Today I did a market survey and found a property renting a 2 bedroom apartment for $499. Not a tiny one either and I believe it had 2 bathrooms in a decent (not fancy) part of town.

    See what I mean?

Eugh, this makes me jealous. NYC apartment rent is ridiculous. I pay like $700 a month and that's just for my bedroom out of a shared apartment.

Anyway, it really sounds like a good time to leave, for financial and stress reasons. I hope you find somewhere awesome when you do move.

Give some serious thought to whether you can buy, as well.

We have a crappy little house which looks ugly, but is basically sound. Our mortgage is less than we'd be paying for rent for an equivalent building.

On the down side, all the repairs are our problem to deal with.

On the up side, no inspections. No having to hope that a management company will approve a necessary repair. All of that.

        ADDENDUM:
Don't stress your finances. If you buy, buy the cheapest house that suits your needs. Aim to pay about what you'd pay in rent.

        1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

I'm definitely keeping the idea of buying in mind, but it would be a condo, as houses aren't affordable in my area, and I do have to keep transportation issues in mind. (and this is something I'd be seriously looking at if I hadn't lost the church job)

Anyhow, I definitely appreciate all the suggestions and good thoughts................because if it did happen that there was a problem with this inspection, I'd have ten days to move out, and I'm not ready for my lease to be ended quite yet. (because of moving stuff and all)

Just stopping by to say that when I got home from work/running errands tonight, I didn't find a note or any evidence that anyone had entered my apartment, so my assumption is that mine must not have been selected as part of the inspection.
