Okay, I was thinking more of those that dislike various items rather than those with allergies.

That being said, I would think a decent teppanyaki chef would be able to do a separate order of whatever without mushrooms (or whatever) for the person with the special needs/request.

But then, I never have those special needs or requests, so what the hell do I know?

I'm sure if explained they could give people with food allergies a separate table to minimize the risk.

on a side note - as a Christmas gift my parents got me a $60 gift card to Bennihahas. (As well as $60 to Joe's Crab shack). MMMMM

My sister and I went tonight. She got shrimp while I got chicken and fillet mignon. It was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfection. We requested no veggies and it was no problem. So much food that we brought enough back for my parents to have for dinner since it took them forever to get home from work.

I am not talking about a separate table. I am talking about the same chef doing YOUR order differently from someone ELSE's order at the same table. You know....the way they should be able to do it if they have any talent at all.

The fact is, they are not likely to give you a separate table, as every table in the typical teppanyaki restaurant is the grill itself, where the chef prepares your food for you. Each usually seats at least 8, if not 12, or more.

"But what about food allergies, and them preparing it on the same table?"
Seriously, stop. These grill tables are used every day all day for all kinds of dinners, and the chances of the food you are allergic to not being on that table that day, let alone constantly every day prior for the last several months, is pretty much zero. Honestly, if you're that allergic to a certain food that might be made at that same table, you really shouldn't be dining at teppanyaki restaurants.

An alternative for the *seriously* allergic would be to ask if you could sit at the grill table and watch the show, but have your meal prepared separately in the kitchen. That way the rest of the table gets their food the way they like, and you don't, y'know, die. That is if you want to watch the show. Honestly, I've been to a few, I've seen it, and I'd just as soon enjoy a quiet meal with my Fiance instead of having a guy fling shrimp at my face. Food's better at the local sushi place anyway.

Seriously you are way off base, it would depend on the allergy.

For instance my husband is allergic to fish, if they cooked fish in front of him then he would have a reaction due to the oil in the air. If the fish had been cooked on the grill earlier (provided the grill has been cleaned, which it should be) or if the fish is cooked more than 4 or 5 feet away then it isn't an issue.

We have never had a problem being accommodated at any of the tappanyaki places we have been, they have simply asked the other guests waiting to be seated if anyone in their party was planning to have a fish entree and they put us with the first group that says no, then again only two of them serve fish as an entrée so if we don’t want to wait for a party who doesn’t mind eating with us then we go to one of the others. Thankfully someone eating sushi near him isn’t a problem as long as they don’t breath right in his face.

Pardon my skepticism, but seriously.....someone eating sushi breathing on him would be an issue? Really? That's one hell of an allergy.
