So, we just watched Back to the Future because we bought the trilogy recently, and thinking about this thread, I paid attention to the Doc when he comes back at the end of the movie. This is also at the beginning of the second, of course, although it appears that part of the opening scene was re-filmed, starting from when he's just about to throw the can in

One of the things he's got on is an ear piece device that looks an awful lot like a bluetooth device. Since there's a pretty standard microphone attached, I'd say it is some communication device.

That bit was refilmed, mainly because they had to recast Jennifer.

Yup, turn on the last subtitle option that each DVD has. It's actually a "trivia bits" similar to pop up video.
