    Update

    I got the news tonight.

    My brother is in Afghanistan.

Please keep him in your good thoughts.

He will be in my prayers. And you will, too.

I still remember how it felt when my brother shipped off to Viet Nam. I was scared to death. Don't let him know you are, though.

Do remember to keep writing to him. It doesn't have to be anything special, just let him know what things are going on around home. Our local radio station would send several-hour-long tapes of broadcasts and music shows to our military folk if you asked, dedicating various shows or songs to the individuals. (Well, they were tapes then...) He loved it when he'd get one. Maybe your brother's favorite station has something like that?

I also remember not really crying about it till he came home on a surprise visit. We knew he was back in the States but he didn't tell us that he was able to get leave. That's when it registered that he was really home, when I saw him coming up the steps. I shut myself in the bathroom for half an hour before I could stop crying.

So hang in there, stay in touch with him, be brave for him. You can go cry in the bathroom, too, if you want! ;-) And know that I, along with others, are holding your hand.
