    Anyone ever heard of this????

I just saw about it on "1,000 Ways to Die".

i Dosing is listening to music mixed with different soundwaves that will supposedly alter your brain waves and create a "high" without drugs.

In the episode, the guy chose one that put out such powerful low-range frequencies that he died of a brain aneurism.

I actually went to YouTube and tried it for only about a minute. The only thing it did for me is give me the sensation of a head-rush, like standing on my head and feeling dizzy. Personally I'll stick to listening to some of my favorite songs to feel good.

I have never heard of this. Sounds like something that would just give me a headache. (I can get head rushes just by standing up too fast, tyvm.)

It's pretty much bogus, probably more because of a placebo effect than anything else, iirc theres a disclaimer saying that it only works for a few people (read: probably those suceptible to placebo suggestion)

Bull,Mythbusters did something along those lines usin' monster amps & speakers that no ordinary person would have & nothing happened. The military's done extensive research into sonic weapons & haven't come up with anything useful. It's easy to make noise loud enough to cause discomfort & even break eardrums but then the inverse square law takes over so it's useless at any real distance.

Music and dance have been used for millenia to help produce an altered mental state - everything from meditation, to wild 'rave party' dancing, to the kind of mental state that allows a soldier to keep walking on mile 5 of a 10 mile hike.

However, music can't force the state on a person. It just helps. For most people.

          2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
          3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
          4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Remembered there was an article on Cracked that covered something similar. Take with a grain of salt, it is Cracked.

I'm actually thinking the head-rush came from staring at the animated designs on the screen.

I do that all the time with my music. I'm not doing it on purpose, that's just what happens sometimes. The high is incredible, but really it's up to you to get it. It's only really effective if I was bothered by something, or if I hadn't listened to music in a while. And it doesn't help that I listen to techno. To me it feels like the typical 'think happy thoughts' rush. Except in my case, the happy thoughts are really just me thinking evil ones. Gotta let some steam off in this crazy world.

Edit: Listening to one of the 'i-Dose' tracks. It's just plain techno. Nice beat, but I have the feeling that the image on there is the main way they try to get 'high'. If you have to look at the image to get a high, that's cheating if you ask me. Guess just it's the repetition in the music and how it changes. And now I hate this song. At least choose one that isn't annoying. D:

                    Uhh, say what?

It actually is the frequency in combination of the volume that the LRAD uses that causes it, so there is something to it, but causing people to clear out of an area from a sonic attack is easy, causing your body to react to it in ways similar to a drug induced high is a lot more difficult and a lot more precise.

Not saying it can't be done, and the stories, though heavily edited, are based on true events. That said, it's an extremely precise science so odds are that part of that "heavily edited" portion of the story was the guy selling them like a street corner pill pusher.

Yeah, the part about selling flash drives on the corner seems made-up to me. That show is one of my muses' odd addictions (hey, it helps me come up with new and interesting ways to kill off villains).

News coverage about some riot or another actually included (probably unintentionally) audio of a sonic weapon being used to disperse a mob. After less than two seconds of it the feed cut out, and one of the newscasters at the desk was holding her ears -_-

If you already going to believe that say some Brahms will help you calm down it will help you calm down.

But I can also see where some beats or frequencies can cause someone problems. Like when I went to my first rock concert. Wasn't real near the speakers but I got a nose bleed and a headache just near the base. When I got looked over by some medics cause I was looking bad, my heart rate was synching in with the master beat coming from the music.

Will the same happen to you? Probably not but it I's something I have to watch out for.

Youch, that's pretty...strange. Reminds me of the stories of people picking up radio waves from their dental fillings. Except I think your situation is a hell of a lot more plausible than hearing Elvis in your teeth.

I just remembered what else I was thinking about that 'i-Dosing' thing. The 'high' could be from the fact that you like the music, too.

I was told it's mostly likely because I'm technically a SID's baby. But because I was on a heart monitor every time I stopped Mom got me started again. Just putting my head on my boyfriend's chest now my heart rate shifts to match his. Much like placing a snoozing baby on one's chest can help calm them down and slow their heart rate.

Ya know I would love to hear Elvis all the time...love that man.

I've heard of it. I had a friend in college who swore by it.

Tried it myself and it didn't do crap.
