I really just want to call it Soft Kitty but no one else seems to like it (Big Bang fans will know what it means). There's still a battle of pecking order going on between it and Mort; they're forever staring at each other for long periods of time before someone starts hissing and scratching.

You have to sing to it everytime it's sick like Mee-Maw used to.

I just can't get over how snuggly and needy it is! Mort enjoys his pets, but he requires minimal cuddling and usually likes to be left on his own, preferring to stare smugly instead of being held. Sorry for the um . . . bluntness, but can someone help me confirm that this is a she-cat? It's amazing for all that cats love to put their butt in your face, the one time I need to get a picture of it, it wouldn't do it!

Either a she or a fixed tom I'd say. It isn't easy to see the difference. You will probably end with going to a vet, ask him.

Given the nature of the people in the area we live in, and the fact that the cat is malnourished already, I doubt if it's been fixed. Spaying/Neutering is a foreign concept with most people here, sadly. My Dad flipped out the other day when he thought it might be a female because "Oh NO! It'll have kittens with Mort!"

I don't see the usual equipment. Even if it was a neutered male, they'd be there, albeit rather tiny. The face doesn't have the usual full cheeks you see on an intact male, either. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check with a vet.

Guys... if it is a she, and youngish, it's entirely possible she's being so very friendly and needy because... she's going into heat. I've not been long around those types, mostly 'cuz the one or two I was around were very noisy, but if she's been abandoned since before the spay time-- or hell, if the person she was with didn't have the inclination/money to do so...

Congratulations! It's a girl. You can see a thin line underneath the anus: the vagina.

With males you can usually see an small external sac with a little knob underneath.

I'd definitely get her fixed soon. Your little guy may be fixed, but there are sure to be other toms in the area. You could end up with a little tuxedo family.

I'm gonna see if I can get her to the vet on Tuesday when I'm off again, for her first shots and a rabies vax. Then I'll ask when is the soonest I can take her in for spaying. My nephew really wants her and he says when he gets a job he'll pay me back for the vet bills she's going to inevitably rack up on us, but she really does need to be seen. We've also all finally settled on a name for her: Thirteen
