That customer bein' me.
WARNING: car stuff
Got into an argument with my local mechanics a few days ago when I took it in for some work & they decided that they'd air up my tires (LT245/75.16) up to the max of 70 psi.I told them that was waaay too high for my vehicle,a '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They insisted that a Load Range E tire had to be run at max or just below otherwise I was "pushing a flat tire".I told them I was on my 2nd set of them & I'd always run them at 35 psi unless I really loaded it up,then I went to 45 psi.
"Oh no,"they insisted,"You'll ruin the tire & get crappy gas mileage"
I had to drive home on them & it was damn near uncontrollable on my very rough dirt road.I aired them back down to 35 psi, then this morning I called Pro Comp (the maker of my tires) & BF Goodrich (they make a similar tire).
They both agreed with me
I'm goin' back into the shop in a few days & intend to tell them that.If they don't agree then I'll tell them I'll look to take my business elsewhere....after 10 years & countless $
let's get this out of the way: the doorjamb sticker says "32psi" but that's for the original 265/60.17 that came stock, all 5 of which had flats the 1st 6 months we had it,so I lifted it 2" & got the bigger, heavier tires

I AM the evil bastard!

They just love dealing with idiots, especially when said idiots are potentially damaging their reputation by not following the proper protocol when it comes to their products. Who knows, if they have a "licensed by manufacturer" type of thing with the shop...they'll pull it. A company's reputation is everything, and they won't tolerate those who tarnish it.

I would imagine that even an incompetent mechanic would know to put in a part the way it is supposed to be in. Might not get the fit or connections right, but at least would get the direction right. How the flying ferret fuck does one install a part backwards when one is (allegedly) a professional mechanic? The mind, it doth boggle.
