  • Friend Lost His Job

    And we don't know why.

He'd worked for a company for over 3-years, traveling to train other companies, implement new ideas, etc. In the past few months they'd had him traveling constantly, only coming home for a day or so before being sent out for another few weeks. Now his department does have other tasks to do besides the travel, but it's stuff that has to be done at the home company; he can't work on it while on the road. There was a whole group of people in his department that were there while he was traveling. Yet, when he came back from his most recent run, he was sat down and told he was being fired because "You're just not working out." He's never been written-up or disciplined, or even told there were issues he needed to work on. He asked them to explain, and they said when he was gone none of the stuff in his department got done. Ummm, wouldn't you then talk with the people who are NOT TRAVELING? I don't know what the laws are in his state, but he's thinking of getting a lawyer. He was good at, and very happy, with his job, and had no hint that this was coming. I don't believe he was in any sort of supervisor capacity to delegate tasks to his coworkers while he was gone either, so it shouldn't be on his head that work wasn't done when he wasn't there. He's pretty wrecked over this right now, and there's not anything we can do for him.
