  • so I think this is cheating the customer

So sunday me and the hubby went to McDonalds cause they had the fish fillets 2 for 3.00. Yeah!!! So we ordered and took it home, and we got pissed. Our fish only had a 1/2 piece of cheese on each one, as in they split a piece of cheese between 2 sandwiches. Also they had less then a teaspoon of tarter sause on each one, and to top it off they were rubbery and tasted like trash.
So I contacted the McDonalds headquarters and they wrote me back this nonsense.

I want to thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the McDonald's in Bloomington, IN with me. Your feedback is very important to us as it allows us to better understand how we can improve our service to you.

I am sorry the Filet-O-Fish sandwich did not live up to our high quality standards and for your dissatisfaction with the portion size of the tartar sauce on the Filet-O-Fish sandwich. Please be assured that we want to provide you with an exceptional experience every time you visit us. From your email, it is clear we did not meet your expectations. Again, I am truly sorry we disappointed you.

I want you to know that I have already taken action on your feedback. After reading your email, I immediately shared the information you brought to our attention with the local franchise owner of the restaurant you visited. Additionally, I notified our regional McDonald's consultant who works with this owner for follow-up in the restaurant and appropriate corrective action.

You may be interested to know extensive customer research and testing was done to determine the way our customers prefer to have their cheese on the Filet-O-Fish sandwich. Interestingly enough, most of our customers preferred to have a one-half slice of cheese on their sandwiches. In fact, the Filet-O-Fish sandwich has contained one-half slice of cheese since we introduced the sandwich in 1963.

However, feel free to ask for more cheese or "extra" cheese the next time you order the Filet-O-Fish sandwich at your local McDonald's. Please know you may be charged for extra cheese. With our "Made for You" processing system, your local McDonald's should have no problem accommodating your request. Your comments are important and will be shared with our Menu Management team for their review.

Again, April, thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your business and we hope to have the pleasure of serving you soon.

So yeah I have might have to pay extra for a WHOLE piece of cheese, I have always gotten a whole piece. So I just this is a excuse. I think it is just another example of companies trying to save money. I think they are cheating the customers.

It may well be, but, speaking as someone who spent a couple summers as a teenager back between 86 and 89 making those damned sandwiches, they were telling the truth. They have put a half slice on that sandwich for at least that long.

I think your first mistake was going to McDonald's.

Your second and larger mistake was expecting anything resembling quality food from a fast food establishment like McDonald's.

Yeah, I'm a food snob. What's your point?

Now, some people may say that I have expensive taste, and to a degree, I do. But that does not mean I don't think you can get good food cheap. You can.

Virtually every sandwich shop offers tastier, healthier, and in my mind better alternatives to Mickey D's. Subway, Blimpie's, Quiznos, Miami Subs, etc.

      "But we want a burger!"

There are often local burger places with burgers superior to anything you could ever find at Mickey D's or BK.

      "But we want Filet-O-Fish!"

There are often local establishments with fish sandwiches superior to anything you could ever find at Mickey D's or BK.

"But we like Mickey D's Filet-O-Fish!"

I have just one question to this: why?

I love McDonalds, and despite friends and coworkers lecturing me about what's in the food, I still don't care.

On a budget, it's alright food for your money. If I wanted a burger and fries at Milwaukee Burger or Red Robin, it'd be $10 or more, plus you can't always carry out. I'd rather not go out to eat alone.

It's an easy fix on my way home from doing laundry or from the gym.

The downfall is you have to have a gym membership if you're going to eat that stuff frequently

I'm with Pedersen on this. When I served my time at McDonald's in 89 - 90 range, It was always 1/2 a piece of cheese on those things.. That was how i was trained....

In light of Blas's comments, let me rephrase what I said earlier.

If you're eating at McDonald's purely to save money, get used to the quality they put out. And don't be surprised by it. If you normally like their food, and this one instance was an aberration, that's another story. But don't be surprised if a fast food place is exhibiting signs of being cheap. Because frankly, they are.

I have a ridiculous weakness for Dairy Queen's burgers. And their chicken strip baskets. There's one right around the block from us, so it's a frequent stop. There are some local burger joints, but they're pricy and overly fancy. One even does truffle oil fries and duck fat fries - which are always completely soggy. (Most of the local places usually smell of hipster, that lovely mix of not bathing and patchouli, which is not appetizing.) Actually, we just got a Smashburger, and that was one of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. And the fries are just wonderful.

Contrast that with Key West: two Subways, two Quiznos, two Denny's, two Wendy's, one Miami Subs, one McDonald's, one Burger King, one KFC, one Outback, one TGI Friday's, one Hard Rock Cafe, one Waffle House, one IHOP.....

but no Taco Bell, no Arby's, no Sonic, no Blimpie's, no Jack in the Box, no Whataburger, no Applebee's, no Perkins, no Coco's, no Chili's, no Bennigan's, no Houlihan's, no Red Lobster, no Carl's Jr., no Dunkin' Donuts, no Krispy Kreme, no Buffalo Wild Wings, no Dave and Busters, no Planet Hollywood, no Hooters, no Gordon Biersch, no Del Taco, no In and Out, and a whole lot more chains that we don't have here.

We DO have a lot of really great non-chain places, including places that specialize in Thai, Irish, Italian, seafood, steaks, rum, whiskey, sushi, tapas, Columbian, Cuban, Brazilian, Mexican, barbecue, raw bars, and even a brew pub.

Sadly, we also have possibly the worst buffet restaurant ever, where the best reviews of it online were scathingly bad. But that place is a notable exception to an otherwise excellent selection of food choices available to us on this little tropical island.

Would that be the one named after a famous computer game character? That was NOT a fun place, but I assure you it is NOT the worst buffet restaurant ever, because that place is right here in London, and i ate in it last week. Where is the green puking smiley?

I have to agree with those people who said MuckDonalds food was not appealing. My kid likes the Happy Meals, so every so often, we go to MuckDs to keep her happy. I buy a food item, because i an convinced that it can't be as bad as I recall from last time, and of course every time it IS. I think I am stupid, because I keep doing the same thing over and over again ,and expecting a different result.

KF, however, is the food of the gods (except the chips, those are gross)...

Five Guys really needs to start building restaurants closer to me.

Also I am very much currently in love with Taco Johns. The person who decided to make tater tots a side dish for tacos is a fucking genius.

Taco John's is awesome!! The seasonings used for the taco meat is the same recipe that John Turner developed in 1968 in his garage and basement when he started the "Taco House" which became "Taco John's" in 1969. The Ole's are fantastic and it is the special seasoning salt that is on them that make them so addicting!! I can tell you the whole history of Taco John's! I am glad you like them! Taco Tuesday is the best! gotta love cheap tacos and burritos! and the breakfast burritos are equally fantastic!!

                              P.S. Can't tell I have worked there for over 16 years..LOL
