  • May have food poisoning (gross)

Last night myself and one of my partners in crime decided to it up our beloved Irish pub. In my town, so I was happy

Alas, I get there at 8, was informed the kitchen was closing, but they might be able to get something quick in. I decided cheese fries might be easy and tasty. And tasty they were.

This morning I wake up with cramps and...get a wee bit sick. Figure it'll pass, I actually make it to work! I leave work after 30 mins (and actually did some work..I am good)

Sick all day today...tummy is completely empty, and its hard keeping water down. No food, not even crackers. (and what is up with cats inspecting the toilet afterward? Damn cats)

Good thing, I am already working from home tomorrow. Any one here get food poisoning before? DId you contact the place? Granted, its self-diagnoses (House would be mad), but I think they should now...andI will not ask/take freebies. Love that place too much

I don't think cheese fries could have caused that.

It sounds like what I had last Friday. I was sick all day, then was fine (for the most part) the next day.

Since your tummy feels icky, why don't you try some sort of plain, nonfat (good) yogurt? The acidophilus in yogurt is wonderful for these types of problems (and general stomach health). They even have little pills you can take instead of yogurt if you're worried about it not agreeing with your stomach. If you want to give it a shot, Walgreens has an acidophilus pill that is not only minuscule in size, but you don't have to refrigerate it either.

I suspect I had food poisoning last week. I think it was from meat, though; I went to a Mongolian style grill where they have all the food laid out raw on a chilled buffet line and you pile everything you want in a bowl and they cook it. I think I got it from there because other than that meal, my husband and I ate pretty much the same thing and he didn't get sick; and I was the only one who got the turkey off the buffet. The day after we ate there, I had a terrible migraine all day and ended up throwing up that night; I couldn't even keep water down. I didn't throw up again after that, but I did have a lot of digestive problems for the rest of the week, and got nauseous whenever I ate anything besides bland food. I would avoid milk products for a few days; the acidophilus might help since your digestive tract is probably kinda screwed up, but I'd recommend pills before yogurt once you can keep liquids down. (yogurt and milk made my stomach really cramped and upset last week when I was recovering.)

I didn't bother to contact the place, since I didn't know for sure that that's how I got sick. But if you know the owners or workers, you might just mention it to them. Hope you feel better soon!

Food poisoning typically causes a very quick reaction. There's been a stomach virus going around, and I think that's what got you.

Cheese fries definitely could have caused this. In all likelihood, though, the cheese sauce was thrown out at the end of the night after being in the steam table through dinner service. The odd of anyone else being served from that batch is very slim if they're following proper food safety procedures. Since this is one of your favorite places and you haven't gotten sick before, they probably are. The cheese was probably just barely over the line. The fries are probably frozen anyway and just fried fresh so I highly doubt that's the culprit.

Same thing happened to me from clam chowder from a place I worked in. It had been there just barely too long. Next day I couldn't even keep water down. No one else who had it got sick, but they had all eaten it earlier.

Depending on what kind of food posioning you had the incubation process can be anywhere from 2-12 hours to show. You should call the health care department in your area and report anything you ate (they usually have a few quick questions) because if you got sick, who knows how many other people did to.

I hope you feel better soon!
