Okay, I just hurt my fucking neck doing yard work.

Then I put on Icyhot right out of the shower.

Yeah, don't put Icyhot on your neck right out of the shower unless you're into some pretty hardcore pain.

      OK, Important safety tip folks.

      Yeowch.

Got back from my TKD workout about an hour ago. Knees are doing pretty good today; the PT must be helping. Heel is sore . . . that needs more work.

Workout today about killed me. Master W likes intense cardio workouts, and we do everything while yelling. I kept getting short of breath . . . haven't built up the endurance I need to keep up. But it was a good workout, and I'm sure I'll feel it in my core tomorrow

At the end of the workout I got a surprise. After testing, the instructors usually hand out trophies to the kids who worked the hardest. Today, me and another adult student (one of the blue belts) each got one. He got his for having the best poomse (form) during testing; mine was for best 3 step sparring.

It made me feel really good to know someone noticed my efforts

I would never dream of doing so.

Of course, I don't count. I don't use the stuff at all if I can help it because it burns. Literally.

Well, normally, I like the burn, and I really feel like the stuff does the job, but putting it on my neck right out of a hot shower was NOT a great idea. It burned so bad my skin turned red and the sting was so severe I got a rush off it. It just about took my breath.

Neck feels a litle better, though.

Hm. Maybe it WAS an okay idea.

Does that to me, too. It's even given me blisters.

              Just saw this thread--I'm in!

I started running again a couple of weeks ago. I signed up for a 5K in early June and I am going to run the whole thing. I've never run more than 2 miles and that was several years ago.

Can I make a suggestion? I am a horrible procrastinator, so I work out first thing in the morning. It doesn't give me enough time to think up excuses to not do it. I get up very early to go running and it's actually good to be half asleep until I'm running. It doesn't give me a chance to say no.

Did not get any Health Rider done today. Given how I've been feeling today, though, I probably woulda fallen off the damn thing if I wasn't strapped in. Since pretty much after my class this morning, I've felt just...blegh. I was really dizzy the entire time I was in the college center, and slowly became unable to breathe through my right nostril. This led to me just completely crashing about two hours after coming home. When I woke up, it was somehow after 5 (And I crawled in at about 2:30).

My mom said it was allergies, but I've never had allergies do that before. O.o

Seriously considering yoga right now...I've seen what it can do and I am impressed.
Details, please? As I've been considering yoga myself, for mental relaxation reasons, not really physical.

That is an excellent suggestion, and I encourage a lot of people who think it will help them to take it.

I will not be one of those. Yes, I am a horrible procrastinator. But I am a far worse morning person. No way, Jose. Count me out on that one...I'll just have to face my procrastination and kick it in the nuts.

Didn't sound like allergies to me, and I am no stranger to them. Sounds like you were coming down with something. And being sick IS a good excuse not to work out, especially if working out in that condition could endanger you.

Get rest. Get better. Come back to us when you're body says it's ready.

Got a good deal of walking in the last couple of days, although not on the treadmill. I was actually outside! Not sure how much longer that will last before allergies kick my ass, but we'll see enjoying it so far!

                    • About the yoga. We used to do a yoga show on Public Television. The talent was in her early sixties and in better shape than I will ever be or have ever been. The lady could stand on her head and elbows with her legs in a pretzel.

And just talk about the pose while she was doing with no effort whatsoever while she was doing it. In a voice that was so smooth and so relaxed the camera crew would actually find themselves starting to fall into a hypnotized stupor.

                      She was unbelievable.

Welcome aboard! Good point about early morning workouts. My physical therapist has noticed I do much better with my exercises when my appointments are in the morning rather than the afternoon, and I believe experts also recommend early morning workouts to get the best effect.

It's great if you can do it. I hate getting up in the morning, and my TKD school does not offer early morning workouts (most classes are in the afternoons/evenings because over half the school are kids). I usually go to the evening classes, sometimes the day class if I'm not working. I'm getting results, although they probably would be better if I started earlier in the day.

I don't think this is allergies. Obstruction in one nostril is a hallmark of an upper respiratory illness (ie, a cold or the flu). As are your other symptoms.

Jester is right: wait a few days until you are over it before you work out again. I took off a week from TKD when I had my cold last week. I'm still a bit stuffy, but once I was past the contagious stage I've been OK to work out. In the mean time, load up on the chicken soup and the vitamin C! Rest. Let yourself heal. I took 2 1/2 days off from work, and got better faster than I would have if I hadn't.

                        Hope you feel better soon.

Yoga is sooooo cool. I've always wanted to try it but could never find a class that I could fit around my work schedule

                        • As someone who used to do a lot of yoga, I really recommend that you go to a least a couple of classes in an actual yoga studio (if it's a gym, be sure that the instructor is certified to teach yoga.) It's really easy to over-extend a knee, twist an ankle, or pull something in your back with some poses. An instructor can give you some techniques to make sure you don't do that and it's absolutely worth the money. (Depending on the instructor and the class, you may also learn some about meditation. Some use meditation, some don't.)

That said, I really need to get my fat ass in gear. My high school reunion is in June, and I'm nearly 100 lbs heavier now than I was then. Hmph.

                          • It's almost 6:00. I've done shit towards my cookoff tomorrow, other than buying the last thing I needed from the grocery store today. I've futzed around, doing everything but cooking. So right now, I should be in the kitchen, working on my sauces.

                            And I will be.

But first, something else that's been put off....workout time! No gym today....getting on the bike and riding for about the next 90 minutes, while the sun is still up. I would have been out sooner, but got caught up in a discussion on this site about alcohol.

So you, sitting there reading this....stop sitting on your ass. Get up, go do that exercise you've been putting off. Nothing I say can help you as much as actually getting out and doing it.

                            23/30.

                            • I took a day off from TKD today. I had too much yardwork to do, and it was supposed to rain this afternoon (just started drizzling).

I plan to hit the elliptical and do my leg stretches and exercises from the physical therapist. Light day

Thanks for keeping this going, Jester. This is keeping my own inspiration going, and I'm rooting for you and everyone else here!

                              • Don't know times, but I did six songs on Just Dance 2, then I did my strength training. Pushups are a bitch. But I feel great. Need to start pushing myself a little harder, that'll be easier when I get out of the house to do my workouts.
