If Great Lakes Brewing is the same as Great Lakes Distilling, they have a maple flavoured rum (Roaring Dan's) that is surprisingly good. Maple syrup is added pre-fermentation, so the flavour is actually infused into the base. Eliminates the sweetness while still having a nice maple bite. Definitely one of the more interesting products.

At least, I think it's Great Lakes... we got it in at the same time as the rest of our GLD order... Might just be the same distributor...

Baltika 6 Porter (Russia, 7.0% ABV): dark, dark chocolate brown color. Very slight to no head. Rich mocha nose. Delicious! Light body, but in every other way it has the porter thing going on. Mocha, chocolate syrup, roasted malt....this is a very good dark beer, but on the sweeter side as porters often are. The only bitterness is a tinge from the coffee aspect of the mocha. Nice dessert-y beer without being overly sweet or heavy. Going well with my very first attempt at homemade Cracker Jack, which didn't go too badly, considering I'd never made it before, nor did I look up any recipe for it. Just went on gut instinct. And on gut instinct, I have to say the Baltika porter would be welcome any time in my glass. 7.0/10.0.

Long, busy day at work equals happy hour.

First off, I'm recovering from a cold, so my tastes are slightly off. that being said, here I go.

First beer is the linnenkugel's Hoppin Hells. I do like hoppy beers now and then, but tonight, it wasn't good. I'll try it again when I'm feeling better.

Second one is the great Divide Scotch Ale. Holy crap! It's amazing. it's got a hint of chocolate. I would like it even healthy, I'm sure.

Well, I'll add more as I drink more. I'll probably do the Commodore English next.

Again, being sick probably comes into play here. I might like it normally, but tonight it's bland. if go for another beer, it'll be the Great Divide Scotch Ale.

Moo Joos is outstanding. Probably the best Brau Brothers normal offering (their Rye Wyne is an amazing rye beer aged in rye whiskey barrels, but they haven't made it in a while and I am down to 1 bottle)

I'm going to try to track some down just on this recommendation alone. (And sorry your favorite is in short supply db. Have you written to them about another run? Micros often respond personally to RFI's.)

So I hit a new store I hadn't been to in a while (the joys of living in a big city is there are lots of liquor stores) and found some goodies. Stone Brewings' Oaked Arrogant Bastard had gone down in price so I got a delicious 4 pack for only $12. Founders Mango Magnifico (an amazing mango habanero beer) that had left all others stores long ago, and Tallgrass Zombie Monkie porter. Haven't had a chance to open it, waiting until Walking Dead season premiere for that.

Well, a miracle has happened - I found a Sam Adams beer I like.

Sam Adams Fat Jack is an awesome beer. Here's the description that's on the bar menu

"classic pumpkin pie spices ignite a warmth and spark that's deepened by an undercurrent of roasty smoked malts."

Try it unless you're my good friend who hates pumpkin. that's her major flaw.

If so, have you tried Sam Adams Black Lager?

If not, you might just have a second miracle when you do.

I highly recommend it. It's my favorite Sam Adams by FAR.

I've got some smuggled into Minnesota Yuengling Octoberfest beer. I can't wait to try it. Too bad it's only a 6 pack. Beggers can't be choosers.
