  • Any kitten experts in San Antonio? Need an ASAP response.

Posting this for xx_wolfie_xx. His former roomie found a box of nearly-newborn kittens today. Although the two of them live in the same complex (next-door apartments), they've both got busy lives, and xx_wolfie_xx has a snarkycat who will *not* take well to kittens.

Is there anyone in San Antonio who can help out in some way? This is rather time-sensitive, so please let me know. I'll pass along any info. Whether it's helping with direct care, or supplies, or knowing someone who deals with newborn kittens professionally, any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Any idea how old they are? Can you get them to a vet to determine approximate age?

I'll cross-post to my FB. One of my friends works for the Helotes Humane Society, I'll see if she can offer anything.

Edit to add: How many are there? Is there a mother around somewhere?

No mama, looks like they've been abandoned, probably by a human. I don't know how old they are, but the presumption is newborn, or close to it. He should be home within a couple hours, hopefully he can post more info then. They do need to be taken to the vet still - they were found shortly before I posted.

He should come visit Lupo and drop them off at the Houston SPCA.

Honestly, I'd prefer (and I think they would prefer) to find someone who could care for them, either because they have a nursing queen already, or because they're experience hand-raisers.

I've raised exactly ONE kitten from birth. It was probably the most difficult thing I've ever done, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone who hasn't already experienced how fragile newborn kittens are. There's a reason momma doesn't leave the birthing box for the first three weeks.

If all else fails, you could try calling around to pet stores in the area and see if anyone at any of them knows and has contact info for fostering services in the area.

You could also call the local shelters and ask them the same thing, as well as your vet.

He's taking them to his vet. There are three, cord still attached, definitely newborn. Still alive, for now, but barely.

I'm wishing all sorts of disgusting, slow, painful deaths on the foul stench that left them in the box.

There may be a shelter with a nursing momma cat, and as others have said, they may have foster programs. The vet will probably be able to point them in the right direction, though. We had to hand-raise some kittens, but they were already 2-3 weeks old (their momma got hit by a car). It was still a hassle to make sure they got their feedings, stayed warm, keep them away from the dogs, etc.

Yeah. Most of them seem to be surrender via appointment only, and most of the others aren't currently taking any more animals.

I'm almost out of ideas here, and I know he doesn't want to have to contact the city.

I ended up taking the kittens to the city pound, thanks to all who helped. It just wasn't ment to be.
