Nails, nails, everywhere!
This could be similar to Irv's saga of "this is what happens when you cheap out" only property management company style.
It's no big secret that the property management company has raised rent, charges big bucks for lockouts, will do anything to keep security deposits.......owns practically everything in several towns. Yet, when it comes to things like snow removal, pavement, and other contracted stuff, they always go with the cheapest option.
This would be why, in the winter, tenants end up having to shovel our walkways, because the people they hire never shovel. After enough complaints, they'll go with a different business the next year, who is also bottom of the barrel and does the same low quality job.
The people they chose to re-do our gutters last week were no different.
I came home Friday late morning and saw all of my downstairs neighbors all bent over and appearing like they were looking for stuff on the ground around our cars.
I didn't know this, but Friday was the day that all of our gutters were going to be re-done and updated.
And the people they hired to do it.......left nails EVERYWHERE and did not clean them up.
It gets better.
Not only did they leave nails all over the parking lot, but when my neighbors rang the property management company and complained (and one complained in person after the people left), they were told "Well, as long as you guys pick up most of them, it should be alright."
Then the other maintenance guy said he might come back later Friday or on Saturday to help pick the rest up. He never did.
And when the caretaker asked if they were going to replace our tires or pay our medical bills if anyone stepped on one..........of course, he was told "No."
I wish there were some number I could call and be anonymous and report them. This is not safe. And they are refusing liability for this and they made it OUR responsibility to pick up all the nails.
We probably have most of them. I haven't found any more since Sunday morning. But why did we keep finding them? Because the wind would blow or when it rained, they slid around, out of the rocks and onto the pavement. RIGHT BY OUR VEHICLES.
I do want to find a number to call, but the only thing I'm worried about is that the property management company is refusing liability because they told the tenants to worry about it, and I'm worried they may have a loophole because we technically have a designated caretaker, even though he was never told BEFORE the job was to be done that he'd have to pick up nails.
