A dog we had when I was a kid would do that too...
I'm more of a cat person.
We have two. The male, Ron, is a hyperactive, giant kitten. He's three now, and acts just like he did when we got him. He's also dumb as a box of rocks. He likes to sit like some kind of ornament on the back of my husband's office chair. He also likes to climb inside the box spring of our bed and race around in there, thumping and banging into things. He loooooooves to sit on laps, but he either doesn't like to or doesn't know how to jump up into a lap, so he'll just sit next to your chair, looking pathetic, and lifting a paw now and then to paw at the seat, in hopes that you'll pick him up and cuddle him.
The female... is complicated, neurotic, clever and stupid by turns. She cannot figure out how to push open a cracked door. I can leave it half an inch too narrow for her to fit through and she'll stand outside it pawing at the carpet and meowing at me. But she is a master manipulator of humans. And she bites my neck. Little vampire kitty! But it's to get attention. If she's in my lap but I'm not spending all my time petting her, she'll get up on her hind legs and nip at me until I pet her again. She also has some kind of sexual issue, I swear. She's neutered, (and female! and a cat!) but she humps people's legs. So not kidding. Mostly when you pat her butt, she also loves butt-pats. But if you keep doing it she'll start getting all excited, and freaking out, and starts basically humping whatever she's sitting on, which is usually my knee. Weird cat.
Both cats have recently boycotted their water dishes, and the toilet, in favor of drinking out of the little cup where I clean my paintbrushes.
And of course I posted just a bit ago with the pic of my snake, who "hid" by wedging herself up against the glass. Very clever of her.
I think sometimes that all my pets are defective. The cats are idiots, the one snake thinks glass hides her, the other can't figure out how to eat food... I guess the third snake is normal, he knows how to eat and he hides by actually hiding. Which includes hiding down my shirt when I'm holding him.
