6 04, still here. Guess we got to make dinner *sigh*
Rob is cooking, and he picked this for tonight, with ham sandwiches on sourdough.

Spiced Cauliflower, Saffron and Gouda Soup

    Serves 4-6

    Ingredients

    30ml olive oil
    30g butter
2 medium brown onions, peeled and chopped
4 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
1 large head of cauliflower, cut into florets
1 tsp mild curry powder (or 3/4 tsp ground cumin and 1/4 tsp ground turmeric)
    1/2 tsp ground coriander
    1/4 ground fennel
    good pinch of saffron threads
    1 L hot chicken stock
    300ml light cream or milk
    120g grated Gouda (or Gruyere)

    Method

Heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté onions for a few minutes until translucent. Add the butter, garlic, cauliflower, curry powder, spices and saffron and stir to combine. Cover with the lid and cook for five minutes over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.

Add the chicken stock and bring to the boil. Lower the heat again and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the cauliflower is very soft. Stir through the cream and simmer a few minutes more.

Blend soup in two batches in a stand blender until completely pulverised and puréed (do not fill blender more than halfway with soup or you could be at risk of an exploding burning mess). Feel free to use a stick blender instead.

Pour out blended soup into another clean pot and gently warm through. Season to taste with sea salt and pepper. Add the grated cheese and stir through until melted.

Serve with crusty bread and cheesy croutons.

Note: if you wish, you can replace some of the stock with a good crisp white wine for extra flavour (about 200-250ml). Add the wine before the stock and let it reduce by half and then add the stock and continue with the recipe.

6:10 pm EST, and still here.

Watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2. The natives are trying to Rapture Cap'n Jack Sparrow, but he's resisting

        6:36 PM EST- I guess I wasn't worthy.
I went to see Pirates 4 in 3D and including Mom and myself there were only ten people in the theater for the first showing. Really weird... Good movie though, not as great as the first one, but a lot better than 2 & 3 IMHO.

I'm still here and it's 6:44 eastern time. I checked in with my brother...guess I don't get to move into his house... Oh well.

Still here, and didn't see anyone being raptured when I left the mall.

It's the 22nd here now and nothing untoward has happened, although the currently sick guinea pig would beg to disagree! Not even a blown light bulb!

In fact, my very first attempt at making gluten free whoopie pies (couldn't resist tweaking a recipe after seeing them mentioned in another thread) turned out to be rather yummy!
                Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

Nice and sunny day....perfect day for a Rapture....

Of course, being Mormon, I don't qualify for the Rapture anyway.
                    You and me both.

Almost two hours after scheduled Rapture time, and as far as I can tell all my neighbors are still present and accounted for.

Is it bad of me that I find the "CRS notice" absolutely hilarious?

Then again, that's kind of a tradition up where I live. May long weekend = so much rain you can't enjoy anything outdoors.

                          • Pushing 9 pm here, still no problem. Just finished watching 2012, and that scared me far more than the Rapture...and more than I thought it would. Some unintentional comedy in it (in addition to the intentional comedy), and some flaws to be sure, but overall, incredibly well done, especially the destruction scenes. Good lord!

                            • Guys, he got it all wrong!

See, my sister and I took went out boppin' around our favorite part of the city, doing a little shopping, had coffee, etc. Out on the street my sis noticed a bunch of turkey vultures and couple of other hawk-types flying overhead. And then it dawned on me.

It's not the Day of the Rapture.

It's the DAY OF THE RAPTORS.

                              Everybody chill.
