Screw hockey. Seriously, I grew up in Alberta, and hockey is BORING.

    Poutine is nasty.
This person is clearly not Canadian. Disregard their advice.

(Actually, Moirae, I have to agree with you. I'm Canadian, and I've never cared for hockey or liked poutine. But I keep it quiet so they don't take away my passport.)

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

My husband is British and he is living here in Canada with me right now. He's been here over a year now and he first came on a BUNAC working visa catered especially for Ukers coming to Canada. That particular visa is not renewable, but I applied to sponsor him as a spouse for permanent residency after we married/before his visa expired.

We are still waiting on the status of the application, and we were given a time frame of about 9 months for processing. We applied in March. He is still allowed to work while we wait for the results of the application.

Apparently, you can apply for citizenship after living here for 3 years (If I remember the info I saw on the Canadian Immigration website correctly).

We will probably just wait until his permanent residency status comes through and plan a move to the UK, and repeat the process for me and my daughter. We both have family on either side, so we would like to be able to have the choice of where to live in the future.

I hope this helps somewhat, and you have any questions about the application process, please don't hesitate to ask. You can PM me if you'd like. If you have family (as you say you do), the sponsorship process is fairly similar to the spouse sponsorship.
