Yeah I heard about this, and have seen trailers. It looks like it might be ok.

Saw the trailer for the new Planet of the Apes movie before Transformers 3 this weekend. Looks interesting.

I'm iffy on this, well at least if they don't try to continue after this movie, is a prequel for the original planet of the apes as opposed to the remake, and recommend that people do not watch this one first. Why? The prequel spoiler effect.

This movie is a prequel, and like most prequels flesh out the details of what was background information in the earlier made movies. The problem is when they do that, any WHAM moments of the earlier made movies lose their effectiveness.

Case in point the Star Wars series of movies. If you watch them in order of release, the big WHAM moment in Empire Strikes back levels a massive shock on you. If you watch them in numerical order however, it boils down to "****ing DUH!" moment, and loses the impact.

Now the big WHAM moment of the original PotA occurs near the end and totally changes the entire concept of the story (the remake actually took it out which I felt was stupid). So like the Star Wars series, if you watch this one before the original, you deprive yourself of the big impact at the end.
