  • Glue Guns: Duct Tape for Women

I wear contacts, but need glasses at night. I've been making due for a while; first, one earpiece broke off, then the other. (I have a habit of falling asleep with them on. ) I taped one on and could live with that, since I take contacts out just before bed & wear the glasses in the morning for an hour or so. But last night, even though I took them off and put them on the nightstand, somehow they ended up under me, snapped in half. So, since I don't have enough in my vision account yet, I am gluegunning the heck outta those glasses. They look ridiculous, but this may work.

    Was it glitter glue though?

Depending where they broke, and what they are made out of, you could do what modellers call "Pinning".

With Pin vise (small hand turned drill, like jewellers ones) metal pin (peice of brass rod or similar, like 1mm diameter) and superglue.

Drill into each broken bit (make sure the holes line up)
glue pin into one hole - put glue on other end of pin and a bit on the surface of the break, and insert pin into other broken bit (Ofcourse, make sure the pin isn't longer than the two holes you drilled)

Failing that, make sure the glue gun glue gets shaped into some cool sculpture, lol.

Edit - In retrospect, 2mm is a bit excessive... 1mm would probably be fine lol.

I want to post a pic, but I have trouble creating an account on places like snapfish, or whatever, because the captcha codes stop me.

Random endorsement: Zenni Optical is awesome! I have been getting glasses from them for the past few years. They start(!) at about seven dollars for complete glasses - frames and lenses. Shipping is flat five, regardless of how many pairs you get. My most expensive were a pair of bifocals for around $25-30 total. All you need is your prescription and the ability to wait a few weeks.

More than cheap enough that I actually have a pair of "sleeping glasses" that I wear when lying down and watching videos. Only pair that I have managed to wear out/break so far were the plastic framed ones that were my first purchase - they finally gave up about five months ago.

My current pair of glasses is kind of like that right now, actually. Somehow, about three or four years ago, I managed to break the spring-loaded part of one earpiece, and had to superglue the earpiece back on. It finally fell off again last week, and the new supergluing is already loosening, so I've got a bunch of scotch tape wrapped around it at the moment to try to hold it stable. It's a pity my prescription just ran out recently, or I'd be taking advantage of the aforementioned Zenni Optical to get a new pair. Normally I'd just wear my contacts more often, but there's something in the air right now that bugs my eyes if I wear my lenses too long.

I don't think attachments work if you're on the mobile site. The only thing I could do is post on FB, probably. I'd love to be able to post pics of all kinds of stuff on here, actually. Kanalah: that made me lol. Lyse: Thanks; I was trying to remember the name of that site. Do I need any other info than is on my prescription.

Food Lady: your prescription and pupil distance. It's usually not on the prescription, but a friend with a metric ruler works great.

Kogarashi - as long as you still have the prescription you can order. They do not call your eye doctor or require a fax copy.

Sweet. Thanks, Lyse. I'm tempted to try with a mirror and ruler.

Unfortunately, all I got at my last appointment (last year) was the contact lenses themselves, and their relevant numbers. Nothing useful for ordering glasses instead.

I'll just have to suck it up and get another appointment, and specifically ask for the prescription itself. Hubby actually did that recently, and it even had his pupil distance on it.

Food Lady - go for it. My pupils were measured that way the first time or two. The last order had a clear ruler with nose space included with each set of glasses. :-). I swear, I am up to about 7-8 pairs just for myself. What?! A woman has to coordinate, right?

Awesome, and if it's off a little, it doesn't matter; I only wear them at home before bed and an hour when I get up.

I don't have a pair of glasses, I look horrible in any pair.

I am so screwed if I lose a contact and don't have any spares.

When my prescription glasses broke I went to Dollar Tree (everythings $1) and painstakingly matched as closely as possible my frames to some reading glasses, bought them and popped out the lenses, and popped mine in. It's really hard to tell the difference.

Now there is a small amount of gaping around the corners, but unless you look for it, it's really hard to see it. This might help.
