  • How did you meet your significant other?

I love a good meeting story.

My wife and I first met online. I was in Canada and she was in Pittsburgh. As luck would have it my buddies were traveling to Pittsburgh for a hockey game a couple of weeks later so I tagged along and met my future wife in person for the first time. The date went well ad we began a relationship.

Being 6 hours apart we only saw each other a couple of times a month but they were enjoyable weekends. In November of that year (2006) we became engaged and began the immigration process for me to come to the U.S. In April 2008 I got my visa and we married a month later. We are still very happy together.

    Aw, great thread!

My husband and I were both judges at a speech and debate tournament. We were judging the same round of impromptu speech and the third judge was late. We ended up talking a lot and then spending every spare moment at the tournament together afterward. People were so convinced that we would end up together and we thought they were nuts. Finally, just to be mean, we pretended we were together, changed our FB relationship statuses, and put up couple pictures on all online profiles. EVERYBODY fell for it. We enjoyed our laughs and taunted a few friends that we eventually let in on the secret. This lasted for a couple of months, then we fell in love. To this day, some people don't know that it was originally a joke.

This all started with the internet!
My best friend used to chat/argue with a guy online, trying to be the first one in the chatroom. Anyway, they talked for about a year and decided to meet up because they worked near each other. They became really good friends and he was 'adopted' by her family.

I came back over to QLD for a family holiday, and had talked my mother into allowing me to stay with my bestfriend's family for a week. We all went to a themepark as a large group, then Ingilbee* and I went to another friend's house that afternoon to catch up. When we got back, there was some random dude talking to my Dad in the lounge, playing a guitar. I shrugged, ignored him because he seemed busy and quietly asked Dad for the car keys so that I could grab some of my babysitting money. Apparently, the first Rugz saw of me was my butt, and decided that he should really look at his guitar because he didn't want to offend anyone.

He made an off comment, I yelled at him and he yelled back. We talked all evening and he asked for my number. After we got back home, Rugz called and we talked for a few hours. Afterwards, Dad told me Rugz would be moving over soon, and I didn't believe it. 8 months of much talking and many emails later, there he was. We've been together for 8 years now, married for almost 6 and have 2 gorgeous girls.

*Ingilbee got her nickname because she's always running late. Rugz was in a hurry because he hates being late and yelled a random nonsense word up the stairs instead of her name. She's been answering to it ever since.

It was my first year of college. I was sitting in the cafeteria eating lunch with my friend C. I saw a very nice looking guy sitting across the room. A couple of days later when I walked into the cafeteria I saw C talking to him. I asked her about him and she said he was not my type.

Fast forward to the start of the next year in college. C and I were sitting at a table talking and Hubby walks up and said since he could not get C to introduce me to him that he was taking it on himself. We dated for a semester and went separate ways.

Fast forward almost 7 years and both of us having very bad marriages. Some friends were throwing me a apartment warming party and invited Hubby. We sat that night and talked until about 4 am. We started going back out and were married Four months later we were married. We will be married 22 years in December

Depends on if you mean spouse or not . If not, it was on this very sight. She contacted me (me being the shy type). Its been less then a year, but feel like I've known her forever.

I was a banner carrier for the All Junior High School Marching Band (9th grade). Hubby was a trumpet player. We were doing the last parade of the year and afterwards a group of us were goofing off. We were all walking up to the awards and a friend of both of us put our hands together and said you two should go out. That was 20 years ago. We have been married 13 now.

I played AD&D, and in Norfolk VA there is a store called Campaign Headquarters, and they very nicely had tables that you could play various games at. I was in a group that was doing AD&D/some other system blend campaigns, and being Tidewater VA there were a lot of military guys that spent most of their off duty time gaming. I was one of about 5 female gamers [not counting store staff] that was a regular. I started hanging out with a couple guys in my game group - John and Rob. They were roomies in the dorms, and on the same sub [USS Spadefish now rusting in piece as razor blades.] I married John, and Rob was a roomie because he wanted to get out of barracks and that meant we could afford a better apartment. Things sort of went cordially south with John, and Rob invited me to move to Groton when he did a change of station and we got married when the divorce got finalized. It worked out, John married Robs ex girlfriend. We have been married for 20 years so far.

                At his first wedding.

                no kidding.

His little bro was in a lot of my high school classes my sr year. He asked me to bartend his brother's wedding two days after I graduated. We became best friends. I was engaged to a cheating jerk. And his wife was a crazy shrew.

We became best friends. Although we had a falling out and did not talk for a year due to me hating his wife with a passion. She was abusive, and I had enough of her constant yelling and belittling of him and everyone around her.

She left him the same time I found out the jerk I was engaged to was cheating on me. We starting hanging out again. Then fooling around. Then dating other people. then fooling around. Then dating. now married.

The funny thing was after we starting fooling around the first time everyone thought we would get married. We did not see it and I guess we were kidding each other. It has not always been puppies and rainbows. I almost left him several times when we were dating. i did not like how his family treated me and felt taken for granted.

Issues have been worked out and things are wonderful now.

Hubby and I met through work, our lunch breaks were at the same time so we'd have lunch together.

A mutual friend invited us both to her 21st birthday and he came and picked me up since I was going to be drinking and he doesn't, had a great night.

The next day he rang me and asked me to a movie, he spoke to my mother since I wasn't home at the time he called and she said he sounded nice

2 years later he proposed while we were sitting in his car looking out over the lake.

Here we are happily married for 10 years with 3 kiddos

Through this very site, actually, I'm in a relationship with xx_wolfie_xx.

There was an epic thread started by Amina that had my name as the title, and apparently I was the only one UNaware that he was pursing me since about September/October of last year. Our first date was December 11th, though he didn't actually TELL me it was a date until it was almost over. We became official on February 11th. And it's been just over 5 months.

We're moving in together at the end of the year.

                    GREAT thread!!!

I met him on a writing site. I can't remember why--if it was his review forum or if it was this activity he was running. We started talking and things just...clicked.

Now meeting in person...that was last year. I spent 3 days on a Greyhound bus, wore the same clothes the entire time, my hair was a tangled wreck, I looked like shit...

                          And it was STILL magical.

Nine years ago come October I met my other half. I had gone with my sister and her partner to a gather for Anne McCaffrey Fans which was held in Blackpool. I met him there...well he was hard to miss being 6'7", chatted for a bit on the Friday, then spent a good bit of the Saturday night talking to him and a couple of others. At 6.30ish am Sunday morning we decided that it would be good to get at least a bit of sleep and as he was staying in a room with four others who had long gone to sleep I offered him a place to crash. Well one thing lead to another and I had a very surprised sister at 8.30 when she opened the door to tell me to get downstairs or I'd miss breakfast.

Spent around four years in a long distance relationship and then he got a job in my area and moved to my city.

My senior year of college, I moved to the 'Honors Floor,' a floor of a dorm set aside for Honors student (there was an actual Honors Dorm, but it had been condemned). Fiance also lived there and we all became friends/drinking buddies. (A LOT of drinking went on in that dorm.) Fiance was a super nice guy and kept his room much cleaner than the other guys, so we hung out a lot. He's the one who introduced me to Quentin Tarantino movies. I'd sit on his bed watching him play WoW and we'd talk. We went on one date, but I felt weird about dating someone on the floor...it seemed like a recipe for conflict and drama and gossip.

I graduated. We sorta kept in touch. Once I got on myspace we'd talk occasionally. (Remember myspace?) He got engaged and that fell apart. A few years later we met up and went on a date...but I was about to move to Kansas City soooo......yeah. Then, a few more years later, he hits me up on Facebook and we talk, and I suggest he come visit. We plan the trip and....he can't get time off work. Then, a few months later, I'm in Arkansas for Christmas and I end up going to visit him on New Year's Eve. Things happen, we decide to give it a shot. He comes to visit three weeks later...by which time I am head over tits in love. He proposed in July and moved to Kansas in November. We're getting married in May.
