  • DINOSAURS!

Khan loves dinosaurs. Not surprising, I freaking adore dinosaurs. He can already correctly identify several species by name.

So I let him watch the BBC documentary series "Walking with Dinosaurs" (today he saw a pack of Allosaurus tear a Diplodocus to pieces. Way better than "Dinosaur Train").

This afternoon I asked, "Do you want to watch "Sesame Street?"

    Khan: "DINOSAURS!"

And I thought, oh God. How am I ever going to break it to him?

My boys LOVE Dinosaur Train. It's kind of cute, although the song, "Every Dinosaur Poops," made me and me ex go

How did you tell them? Should I sit Khan down and say, "Hobbit, there's something I have to tell you about dinosaurs...no baby, don't cry, there' still CGI."?

My ex simply told them that the dinosaurs are all gone, that they went away a long time ago and it was very sad. My boys were 5 and 3 at the time, they both took it fairly well, no tears or anything.

This is for the non-parents out there. Or parents who don't have toddlers. It's a real thing, probably one of the most random wtf songs in children's television history.

              Again, this is 100% real.

It took years for me to get that dinosaurs were extinct.
Of course, I saw Jurassic Park the year it came out (yay I was 3!) and I went into my room and started packing my bags because I was going to Jurassic Park!
It was real people, not a cartoon, so it HAD to be real! Mum says I argued with her for hours about whether or not I could go, and it ended with her saying I wasn't big enough.

I might still base my housing decisions on how raptor-proof it is.

My aunt told me that before she came to visit me, she visited a friend who also had a 3-year-old so that she could brush up on "toddlerese."

Instead, I was speaking in complete sentences and babbling about dinosaurs, including their full scientific names pronounced correctly. She thought I was the strangest toddler she'd ever met.

                    DINOSAURS RULE!

I'm afraid to click on that song.

Don't do it Eisa! It's a terrible song and you will never look at dinosaurs the same way again!
I was one of those kids who knew the scientific names of the dinosaurs, most bugs, and I could tell you ANYTHING about cats/dinos.
My cousin still calls Brontosaurus (Apatosaurus) "longnecks" I snort and then go

I had a stuffed dino about the perfect size for small hands, about five, six inches long. It was green, and had that long head, like a T but without the right side of the bar... Allosaur? No... *goes to look*
It was upright like a t-rex, but I know it was a plant-eater of some sort...
But other than that, I was never really into them.
I'm glad you and Khan have shared interests!

My nephew **LOVES** dinosaurs. He had some of his toys with him on our family vacation a few months back. I had two out and had them next to each other.

He took them and said I couldn't have them next to each other. I asked him why.

"Because one didn't live with the other" (meaning one was extinct when the other was around).

He can go to a gift shop and name what the dinosaurs are (with very god accuracy).

Not bad for a 3 year old.

Now, who didn't love dinosaurs as a child?
