Yeah. That's what I'm saying. "We need an ugly girl, so let's throw some glasses on her."

There just aren't that many homely actors out there for this very reason, I guess.

      Rachel Harris.

She is nowhere near as attractive without her glasses as she is with them.

You know, it's weird, but I have never been hit on nearly as much when I was younger and didn't wear glasses full time as I did when I hit my thirties and started having to wear them all the time.

Believe you me, I was a better looking kid than I am an old lady.

The husband says it makes me look more approachable. Maybe that's true.

But I like men in glasses, too. Throw a dorky pair of glasses on an attractive (and when I say "attractive", what I'm saying is "attractive to ME") face and I'm like

Oh, you're not the only one there. Glasses = hot.

I love men in glasses if they have the face for it. I've always had a thing for Steve Buscemi. The guy is odd-looking, but I have a big crush. Also, Jim Carrey, although I'm not sure what others think. And Tommy Lee Jones. Big, ol' squarehead. Which reminds me I have a crush on my coworker, who is the real-life counterpart of FRED FLINSTONE.

I have to agree on Alan Rickman. There's something very attractive and charming about him. And Patrick Stewart.

Ok I gotta jump on the Patrick Stewart bandwagon. And you know who else? Leonard Nimoy, especially when done up as Mr Spock

                  Chris Gorham on "Ugly Betty".

Chris Gorham on "Covert Affairs" (NSFW).

So yeah, I completely understand how glasses make people "homely".

Mine is a bit dated but Anthony Edwards in Revenge of the Nerds, and Harold Ramis in Ghostbusters.

Also Robin Williams and Adam Sandler...

I think it is because if a guy can make me laugh, and is witty, and can hold an intelligent, serious conversation at the same time, his looks aren't as important as they fade anyway. Although I got lucky with my husband and he has looks, personality, energy, and intelligence.

I've never found Brad Pitt to be anything more than an average guy, not really appealing to me. Honestly he comes off as a dim-bulb, so that is a turn off right away anyhow. Yet my mom is and has been soooo ga-ga over him, she actually begged me to name my oldest son Tristan...knowing full-well where she got the name, and due to my despising that movie, absolutely no way was I going to name my son Tristan.

I also have never found George Clooney attractive in the least.

Ohhh...I don't actually know if he's considered conventionally attractive. But. Anthony Stewart Head, especially as The Repo Man.

Not so much anymore since she grew up and blossomed (although, ironically, she has since ceased to "do it for me"), but I took a TON of flak growing up for having a crush on Emma Watson. (For the record, I was born the same year she was.)

I adore him. He was awesome as Giles (in Buffy).

If you are attracted to them, how are they ugly?
I suppose "ugly" should be in quotation marks. I said Tim Minchin in my first post, who purposely tries to look a tad freaky with the hair and makeup, but I don't think he is at all ugly.

Okay, the geeky IT guy in Ugly Betty...however, you can plainly see that's an attractive guy. I mean, can't you? He's supposed to be a dorky looking little IT guy, but he's actually pretty smoking. How does that count?
He was in an episode of Without a Trace, and when I saw it I had to look him up. His character wasn't supposed to be 'hot' but he looked so different that I just couldn't place him until I looked up the episode on IMDB. (And he was an accountant on Ugly Betty.)

The other side of the coin are people you know everyone but you considers them smoking hot, and while you can acknowledge that they are beautiful by the common standards of beauty, they simply do not register on your radar for whatever reason.

Like for me, for instance, Brad Pitt.
I am so with you there. Objectively speaking, he's a good-looking guy, but he does nothing for me.

Count me as another 'Do Not See The Appeal of Brad Pitt' girl. Nor do I fully see what's so great about Orlando Bloom or most of the other big-name actors who are considered 'OMGWTFBBQSOHAWT!'
