  • New Computer

So this morning while doing some surfing, the computer shut itself off. I've been down this route before last month with DaDairyDruid's computer. We ended up getting him a new computer after I did trouble shooting and I think the motherboard was just about gone anyway. After I put in the new power supply, it would start up, but nothing came up on the screen. Even after changing out the video card, nothing. I confirmed with a friend that it was the motherboard, either fried before or just after I changed out the power supply.

So I did my usual troubleshooting, and put in a new power supply after it wouldn't start when I pressed the power button. Nothing. Okay, try another power supply. Nothing. I tried a different power cord and socket. Still nothing. Great. Looking down at the mobo, I see that some of the little transistors are swollen. That's never good, so something got to it. I know it's been hot, but I had a fairly powerful heatsink and CPU fan as well as a nice case fan and exhaust fan.

I was planning on either upgrading the computer or at least getting a new one next year since this one is about 6 years old, but I guess the computer gods had other ideas.

In any case, I got a new computer (Lenovo IdeaCentre K3 Series) with Windows 7 (huzzah!), so I'm happy.

I don't understand computers very well. But I DO understand needing (and getting) a new one. So huzzah!

Those are actually (most likely) capacitors and those were ready to blow. Not fun.

Yeah, the last time I saw something like that, it was with my work computer. I came in to see a blue screen and said to no one in particular "That's not right".
