    you are given 2 choices...

    a flat amout of $1million

or 1 penny doubled every day for 30 days...

    which would you take?
It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

I'm assuming with the penny doubled you'd get $0.01 the first day,. $0.02 the second, $0.04 the third, $0.08 the fourth? If so, that option.

If I've done my math correctly, then one penny doubled 30 times, or

      $0.01 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 =

      $21,474,836.48

Not quite that high... on day 30 it would be $5,368,709.12. Which is still a very nice sum!

On the 30th day you will receive $5,368,709.12, but on the previous 29, you will have received an amount almost equal for a total of $10,737,418.23

Ah yes, good old powers of two. 2^30 is (approximately) a billion pennies, or £10 million.

I would rather have the million, cause a billion pennies would be too hard to handle and finding a bank that would take it would be impossible.

                0.01*2^29

Doesn't start doubling until the second day.
