  • Anyone want to be a voice star?

I know this is incredibly cheeky of me but i'm looking for someone with a nice voice!

I'm a member of a local history group and for a presentation I'm giving, I've found a poem written anonymously from 1807.

I have an appalling voice for reading poetry aloud so i'm on the hunt for someone who fancies recording themselves reading it (it's not very long) so i can play a recording of it as part of the presentation. It won't be distributed and will only have an audience of about 45 or so. A standard recording on a home PC will be fine for quality.

As we're a not for profit group of amateur local historians, we can't afford to pay anyone but if anyone wants to use it for a show reel etc then thats fine by me. it's out of copyright and all that.

If anyone's interested, please let me know.

Hehehe, every place I work at, I end up being the damn IVR. I hate recording my voice as a result.

Do you mind if the person sounds about 12 recorded?

I am a former DJ with a lousy singing voice but a rather impressive speaking voice. I don't think I'm being arrogant about that, either....I've been told that so many times in my life that I just accept it as fact.

The one issue I may have is I don't have the software (or hardware) necessary to record on to my computer. When precisely does this need to be done by? I imagine such ware would be on my as-yet-to-be-purchased new laptop, and if not, I wouldn't mind horribly buying the appropriate stuff for it, but I would want to make sure it's compatible with whatever laptop I end up with, and not just my PC, which is a dinosaur. Alternatively, I am sure I could record the material on a friend's computer.

I noticed you are from the UK, so I should warn you that I am American and sound American, and have no propensity for a British accent whatsoever.

If you're interested, PM me, and we can talk on the phone, so you can actually hear my voice. Or I can call you, if that is more convenient. (My sister lives in the UK, so I have international calling as part of my cell phone plan.)

Jester sounds like the exact opposite of me. I have a totally different singing voice than I do speaking voice. That's why I didn't volunteer. I cannot STAND my speaking voice on recordings.

I would not mind lending a hand as well if it turns out that Jester can not help. I don't want to steal his thunder or anything

I record regularly for a podcast so I already have all the necessary hardware/software to make a recording.

Likewise, drop me a PM if you are interested at all. Like Jester I am also an American and have an American accent.

I can fake a British accent that apparently sounds East Anglian/Cambridgeshire. But Jester probably sounds like your best bet, to be honest!

                Thanks for the replies folks.

I'm rushing round at work at the moment but i'll send out some PM's when I get home this evening.

I'll also post a copy of the poem so you can see what I'm talking about!

I'd be happy to lend a hand if needed. I know you had other offers, first, but if you get down to me, that's cool. I've got podcasting and acting experience and happen to have a professional recording studio at my disposal in our spare bedroom.

You'd have to ask Food Lady and Marmalady about my voice, not sure I have any way of recording either, but send me the poem and I will give it a whirl if you need.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

Yes, he does. *swoons* Mytical has a stong southern accent, BTW. (He doesn't hear it).
