I think I've only been through one earthquake here in Idaho and it happened during the night...so a lot of people didn't even wake up. I think I might have for about two seconds and then went back to sleep. Woke up in the morning and discovered our living room wall had cracked! 
I also think in regards to tornadoes that they take one look at the mountains around here and go "Fuck this!"
The thing we really have to worry about is the volcano under Yellowstone...not so much earthquakes, tornadoes, etc. I don't know what the tectonic plates are like underneath Idaho, though, if there are any faults and stuff here. I just know it's not like the east coast.
