As most of you know, I've been shooting video for a client. Due to the crappy weather, I haven't shot everything yet. Furthermore, my client has been concentrating on other things and not giving me full details about what to shoot, so I've been playing it by ear. I have some DAMNED good footage, and I'm very pleased with it.
Now. We haven't agreed on a price yet. Yes, yes, I know. However, I do have his camera.
I made the suggestion, and I think it's a very good one, that I be paid the amount of money he gets from the advertisers he will approach to actually be in the video (the videos will go on YouTube, so he will be promoting his company and, he thinks, approximately three businesses per video).
I talked to a friend of mine who is the owner of a business in the same line as those my client plans to approach. He told me a price that he thinks the businesses will be willing to pay. So, if three businesses per video each pay that price, well, I'll be doing quite well!
In the meantime, I have rent to pay and kitty's vet expenses literally drained my bank account. My client has given me an advance (about the same amount as, I hope, each business featured in the videos will be willing to pay).
What is the best way to approach him about another advance? I'm torn between realizing that he's very busy with his company (and, it seems, some personal issues) and the realization that I need to support myself. My new job won't pay me anything until the middle of next month, which is standard for Czech companies. They only pay monthly. And I only just started the job.
Ideas?

) Make sure you have stuff that's ready to go/'tangible' work done, just to head off tempers? Definitely tell him what's going on with your current finances, something like "I haven't gotten a paycheck from the job I just got yet; I swear, after this, no more advances!
