  • Dry Shampoo

I got my hair done extremely wild purple, and the stylist recommended I buy their dry shampoo, and use that instead of washing every single day.

I'm a little worried because I wash my hair every day out of habbit, especially with working out and sweating on my neck a lot in the heat of the summer, even on not so hot days because it's hot in my apartment anyway. Not to mention, my face and scalp are naturally extremely oily.

The brand they have, which I got, is Big Sexy Hair. It seems to have really good reviews.

I've heard good things about the dry shampoos from Tresseme. I'm thinking of investing in some before winter as I know the water main will break at least once before the spring thaw.

I don't think they make a dry conditioner, but I know I need one. Otherwise my hair is pretty much a mess.

fma, get a spray oil to use as a "conditioner". I'd like to try dry shampoo, but I don't know how that works with curly hair. I mean, I can't brush it out without getting the brush stuck. :/

I'm sure you could always use leave-in conditioner. Those are usually meant for wet hair, but I'm sure it won't do any harm to just use a little bit on frizz and the very ends of your hair.

My hair is super baby fine, so I shouldn't have any problem with brushing the dry shampoo out. The instructions on the can I have say to spray it on my scalp and oily spots, wait 2 minutes, and brush it out, and the stylist suggested using the blowdrier over it.

I'm really not liking this idea, first of all, not washing my hair every day, and second of all, any good that not washing my hair would be doing would be un-done by having to re-blow or re-flatten because my hair goes crazy in my sleep. That's another chore....I will have to....practically.....secure my hair in my sleep so it won't move and make waves and kinks.

But I need this color to last more than a week or its usual.

Put a five-cent-piece (dime sized?) drop of olive oil into the palm of one hand. smear both hands together. Now smooth both hands through your hair, paying particular attention to the ends or anywhere that's prone to frizz.

Some other oils can work well too, but I know olive oil works for me.

Cheap dry shampoo: Bicarb soda, or talcum powder. Either will remove excess hair oil and sweat, and help loosen up skin flakes, and a thorough brushing afterwards will remove dirt.

For tangle-prone hair: condition with olive oil first, brush, then use the powders to remove excess olive oil and brush again.

I use batiste dry shampoo and it works well. I don't brush it out so much as work it out with my fingers/ fine comb because my hair frizzes if I try to brush it. Damn static!

If you style it curly their are dry shampoo mousses that stay in but work the same way. I have a make up wrap and shower cap to keep it dry in the shower (sometimes I give it a superquick blow dry afterwards) because the hair right at the nape of the neck and around my ears gets damp.

Let me know how you find it blas oh and can we have pictures of the hair please!

I know some dyes you can add to your shampoo/conditioner. Not the ones that need developer, like the ones that come in boxes. Brands like Manic Panic and Directions I think are able to be put in shampoo. Plus depending on the purple, (MP and Directions have bright, wacky colours, they're popular in the alternative scene here), you could use one of those.

To keep hair from tangling up in your sleep, sleep in a hairnet or with your hair braided. Even a loose braid starting at the nape can make a huge difference come morning.

                  Purple? Very nice!!

Rather interesting in this dry shampoo....will have to look into it.

We used to sell a product called psssssst (or something like that, I always forget how many S's there are in that). It was a spray-on shampoo that just combed out, and was popular with caregivers who dealt with patients who couldn't get up to wash their hair in the traditional fashion.

just checked my wholesaler's site; the stuff's still made, apparently. UPC is 0-72151-41000-7 for the 5.3 ounce spray can. Any pharmacy who orders from Kinray can get it, or you might find it online (e.g. here. (Although I'm not sure what continent Blas is on, or if it's available where she is.)

I used it today. It works alright, but I prefer washing my hair.

I am just hoping that the tub doesn't turn purple.

I have to clean the tub AGAIN because the past two days (Sat and today) I had to take a bath instead of a shower because I can't wash my hair until Monday. Taking a bath + shaving = huge ring of hairs and scum when the tub drains.

                      Gross.

I shower every day but wash my hair every other day. That way I don't have to do the hair dryer/straightener routine every single day...that would get old. But I still take showers....I just use a shower cap. Dollar store has them.

I haven't tried a dry shampoo although I'm tempted to look into it.

The thought of actual olive oil in my hair at all makes me go .

And when it gets hot like it has been I french braid my hair the night I wash it, while it's wet. It stays all the first day pretty good, then the second day I unbraid it and it's all wild and curly looking, and I usually just put in a pony tail. Then wash again that night.

I used to wash my hair every day cause it would get oily if I didn't. But now that I'm older and have done this every other day routine for about 2 years or so it's like my hair is trained to stay decent for 2 days instead of 1.
