  • How amazing is this?

Some time ago, I started a thread about weird things we hear as children. I wrote about a story my mother told me; she claimed that a teenage couple, watching TV at home, were watching a movie about a man who murdered his wife and put her body in a freezer. The two became very ill-at-ease, since the girl's family had a boarder who owned a freezer, but it was always kept locked. Finally, they broke open the door - and inside was the body of the man's wife.

I looked it up, but there are, it seems, dozens of murder cases in which a man kept his wife's body in a freezer. Not one of them fit the story I'd heard.

This evening, while eating dinner, I was reading a book of true-crime stories.

Yes. Indeed. One story was the very same one Mom told me years ago.

Not all the facts were the same - it turns out that there were several people watching TV that night, and though they were curious about the freezer, they made a joke of taking off the hinges to look inside. But, yes - the man had killed his wife and put her body in a freezer. How weird is it that, not long after I posted that story, I ran across it in a book? I haven't even been able to find the case online, though I haven't looked very hard.

This, added to the fact that I think I now have a ghost kitty, is giving a strongly surreal tint to my life.

Note to all budding murderers: Don't stash your victim where you stash your drinks. Someone will notice.

That is pretty weird, though. I'm ashamed that with all the true crime stories I read, I couldn't identify what book this might show up in. But I tend to read more about serial killers rather than one-hit-wonder types of murder stories.

Just had a bloke convicted today of having killed his fiance and stashing her body in a suitcase.

        Vaguely related.

I forget what they call that phenomenon...and maybe I'm reaching by even thinking it HAS a name But it does seem common that once you hear or see something new, all of a sudden that thing seems to be EVERYWHERE. Weird.

I'm a true crime buff too, BTW. Some people find it morbid; I just think truth is far stranger (and more interesting) than fiction. Perhaps I should have pursued psychology....

Just plain old 'Heightened Perception' maybe? I really notice it with cars. If a friend gets a new style/brand of auto, I start seeing that type everywhere.

BoT(?): Back in the mid-seventies, there was an unsolved murder case in my little town in the mid-west. Husband was the primary suspect, but no there was no hard evidence to link him to the crime. Flash forward quite a few years (8? 10?). Husband stops paying the rental on a large storage unit. Lot management opens the unit and discovers a car - with a well bloodied trunk. Seriously? You've gotten away with murder, and in that amount of time you can't dispose of/ clean up the evidence? And you stop paying your rental???!!!
