    ....My game is dead.

As I have the PS3 version, I finally ran into the Horrible PS3 Bug Of Doom. Aka, my game save is now too large (9.7 MB) , making my save unplayable.

Been going back and forth at Bethesda about it, but it looks like there's a distinct possibility there is no fix for this. According to a dev, this is because Bethesda failed to account the system memory for the PS3, and just tra-la-la'd past it out of ignorance.

So with having only played through half the storyline, and being eternally stuck chasing a certain baddie's heels through a ruin....it's just amazingly heartbreaking to find this out.

Oh, and the support's first idea for me? "Try playing in 30 minute increments, saving often, and take one or two hour breaks in between each gaming session."

So, so so so sososososososo angry right now.
Oh.....that's some FDA certified Grade A Bullshit right there....
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

    • Yep. I have the feeling I may end up on here as a Sucky Customer story, because I tell you what. I'm about to throw a major fit at them over this.

I already emailed support back saying that telling me they may never be able to fix it is unacceptable. I said that if I can't play my game that I paid for, then I either want my money back, or a digital download version of it then for my PC. Its just not fair that I paid for it, and I cannot finish playing it because they didn't factor in PS3 hardware. They shouldn't have sold it then, to be honest.

      • Seraph is it a lag issue? (Not having a ps3 I'm unfamiliar with the problem) if it is, good news:

        https://twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon/stat...85309572403200

Essentaially, they can fix it, (it's probably going to be tricky to do, and/or somethign they're working on but haven't really mentioned)

Also, try clearing some HDD space and another soloution, though you may not want to try it, which has reported to have helped is switching to a SSD hard drive.

        Advice from Bethesda

"Turn off auto saves," wrote senior community manager Matt Grandstaff on the Bethesda forum. "This can cause temporary stuttering since the PS3 saves these files in the background. This is most noticeable with large saves when fast travelling to a new area or entering a new area that auto saves.

"Clear space on your hard drive," he added. "Skyrim makes heavy use of the hard drive, and freeing up space on here seems to help many people. Hard drive speeds also differ in PS3 models. Some users have reported increase performance by upgrading their drives.

"Wait for time to pass," Grandstaff concluded. "Many things are running in the world depending on what quests you've done or places you have visited. Using Wait or Rest options, passing time will clear up some of these. It depends how long you wait, it may take up to 30 days for some items. Saving, resetting, and loading after this will have the largest effect."

(I was writing my post up as you posted, haha.) I did actually try all of those things earlier, except the SSD. We have a fairly brand new PS3 with a 160GB HD, and there's 149 GB still available. So, even though their support suggested it was my HD, once they heard that, they were like "Welp, that's not a surprise." Le sigh.

Speak of the devil. Just FINALLY got a call from Bethesda. They pretty much stated a couple of absolute things that didn't make me very happy:

          1. They know about the problem. Yes, this wasn't discovered in QA. Oops.

          2. They're working on a fix, but who knows when it'll be. It could be at any point in time, there's even the possibility they'll never find a fix. (She was honest about it)

          3. There's no way they'll be giving me compensation for this. In fact, the only way I'll be seeing my money back is if I bring it back to the store I originally purchased it from. Which, they admit, being past the month mark, and having the game opened...is likely not to happen.

          4. I have to submit a detailed list of my specs, the game issues, and a copy of my savegame (figures I can't find my jumpdrives) to them so they can look it over.

So extremely frustrated, and kicking myself that I didn't get the PC version. Nothing for it now.

          • 1. To be fair, a game like this is very difficult to QA test for, especially given the nature of QA means that there aren't going to be many save files that reach the lag limit.

            2. To be fair, if the problem was on any of the other systems, it'd take equally as long to make a fix for, its going to be a really difficult, time consuming thing to make a fix for it as it's engine based.

Not that i'm blindly defending them, I'm just letting you know a bit behind it.

Frankly, if you are able to play it on PC, I personally don't see why you'd get it for a console (not blaming you or saying its your bad or whatever)PC Benefits heavily outweight getting it on a console.

              1. Well....I understand that. However, they tested it mainly on 360s and PCs. <facepalm>

              2. Very true as well.

Its hard to share a computer monitor with my husband...much easier for us both to kick back on the couch and play the Playstation. On a second note, I work at my PC all day, don't wanna constantly game here too, haha.

But yeah, sorta wish now that I *had* bought it on PC...

It'll be a graphics card problem, either old-ish drivers or a not good enough graphics card do you know the make/model of your graphics card by any chance?
I have a brand new graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1024 MB VRAM. It should fit system requirements.

Of course, it is a Mac and the game was not designed for it.

I've fixed the problem I had with Boot Camp by installing Windows 7 natively on it, instead of going through Parallels. Problem I'm having now is, I can't figure out how to get online. The set up screens for Internet on Windows 7 are different from what I'm used to on XP, and for whatever reason Windows 7 is not picking up the list of available wireless devices, including MY wireless router.

Right now I'm stumped on how to get on the durned Internet. Because it is a Steam game, I must be online in order to play

                • Well, if you can possibly connect it wired, what you can do is install it, get it updated etc etc and then when you're ready, set steam to offline mode and unplug the cable, then it'll work without you having to be online.

                    • I never understood buying any Bethesda game on a console, honestly. Because of modding. Modding extends their game's shelf life by *years*. Plus modders typically fix most of the game's problems ( and they will have problems, this is Bethesda ;p ) within the first month or so.

That said, the PS3, hardware wise, is a POS to develop for. Its difficult to work with, its exclusively proprietary and generally an all around whore to make anything work on because you have to built everything from the ground up to work on it. The 360 on the other hand, is a PC built towards being a console. Instead of a console being built towards a PC. So if it works on the PC, it will work directly on the 360 and the QA is largely the same. PS3 on the other hand is just a headache all around.

I'm not terribly surprised the PS3 version is ass.

Funnily enough I just saw that mod, made by Tytanis iirc (who, also, has an incredible crafting mod out by the way)

                              • Bought the game 2 weeks ago. Destruction at maximum. If a problem can be set on fire, it isn't a problem for long. If it can't be set on fire, it gets frozen. And then set on fire.
