  • So, um, Peyton Manning.

To clear up some stuff first -

    1. I am a Broncos fan.
1A. As such, I am legally required to announce that I think that the Raiders SUUUUUUUUUUCK. I know we have Raiders fans here, and hey, I won't shoot ya on sight if you extend the same courtesy. I enjoy good natured back and forth trash talk. After all, not everybody roots for teams that have won Super Bowls since the first Reagan administration. :P

    2. I like Tim Tebow's effort and intensity, however I don't think he has what it takes to hack it as a real starting QB.

That being said.........I would LOVE to see Manning wear the predominantly orange jersey. (Really! They are making the orange & blue stripe instead of Blue and orange stripe the home jerseys!)

The Broncos brass, including the GOAT-QB Elway, flew to NC today to view in person a Peyton workout. Apparently he has already worked out for the 49ers, and plans to work out for the Titans. The Cardinals and Dolphins have been told they are out.

I am hoping that he makes up his mind soon, the media coverage in Denver is nuts...........he's about the only QB not named Brees, Rodgers or Brady that could brutally quash Tebowmania, and we have a good quality of life around here to offer...

EDIT - And am I the only one, who if in Manning's shoes, would be seriously tempted to be diabolical and on the first throw I make for someone, scream out in pain, clutch my neck, and then drop down like I've been sniped from 1500 yards? Then after a few seconds, pop back up like nothing happened? I do admit to having an evil sense of humor........

I don't like the mega hype around Tebow, but I think he deserves more of a chance than to get buried underneath Peyton Manning. I mean the idea of him learning from Manning is appealing, but I'm not sure it would work out as well as the Broncos think it would.

Personally, I'd rather see Tebow get a few more years to grow into his own and see how he does and let Manning go to Tennessee.

      let Manning go to Tennessee.
I know whole groups of people that would be thrilled about this.
For the record: I grew up in Knoxville while Manning attended UT. He was (and still is) very popular in East Tennessee.

Aaron Rodgers is still sexier, more talented, and....humble. Unlike the others.

          Hi there!

After all, not everybody roots for teams that have won Super Bowls since the first Reagan administration.
And not everyone roots for teams that are on the very short list that have three or more Lombardi Trophys. (For the record, there are only 8 teams, including the Raiders, with at least 3. None of them reside in Denver.)

Also, not everyone roots for teams that have won Super Bowls in multiple decades. There are 7 such teams. Again, the Raiders are one of them. And again, none of them are in Denver.

And, since we're having some fun friendly trash talking, I should point out that the Raiders are also one of 7 teams that have made multiple Super Bowl appearances and, in those multiple appearances, have a winning record. What's that? No, sorry...Denver still isn't one of them.

The good news for Donkeys fans, though, is that Denver IS on one impressive list. They are one of only two teams ever to have a winning record in Denver. No visiting team has a winning record in Denver against the Donkeys...well, except the Raiders, that is. Who are, of course, the other NFL team with a winning record in Denver.

I'm sorry, did someone say trash talking welcomed here?

I won't lie...that would be a nightmare for me. The last thing I want is Manning in the AFC West...unless, of course, he is wearing black. And that does not seem to be a likelihood.

Damn shame. I think he would have done very well in Arizona. Him and Larry Fitzgerald would wreak havoc together.

I could actually see Manning doing something like that....but only in practice, not during an actual game.

But in the end, the Broncos have to do what is best for their franchise, not what is best for Tebow. And in the short term, as much as it would drive me insane as a Raiders fan, Manning is far better for the Broncos than Tebow is. Manning would make the Broncos the unquestionable favorite in the AFC West, and a definite threat in the playoffs. Tebow does neither, at least not at the moment.

Me, too...but then, I'm a Raiders fan, and would love nothing more than to face Tebow twice a year than Manning, even though our last go-round against Tebow didn't go so well for us.

Is it a death knell for his career that the Chiefs were thinking about bidding on him?

Well, everyone in Indianapolis is mourning the loss of Peyton Manning for the Colts. At least according to the news. I'm a fan because I live here. I'm a Giants fan because I'm from Jersey.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

                hey broncos fan here too!

I think Peyton is a great quarterback.

I just got used to Tebow though. I want him to have a couple more years before they decide if they want to replace him or not. Last I heard, it looked like the Titans were going to make a deal.

                Im not sure though

                GO BRONCOS! YEAH BABY

As a lifelong Colorado resident, I'm pretty sure I have the same obligations. (If not legally, then most certainly on aesthetic grounds.)

Now, as for Mr. Manning? That's a tough one ... I'm also a life-long U. of Florida fan, and I still remember him making our lives difficult for several years. That said, I'm open to anyone who can get the Broncos a few wins, especially in the playoffs.

Trading Tebow like they're talking about, though ... that would be a mistake. We still don't know for sure if Manning will come back at full strength, and even if he does, he's got maybe three good years left, max. I'd like Denver to have a plan B that isn't Brady Quinn. I wouldn't even wish him on the Raiders. Or the Steelers.

                  Well, maybe the Steelers.

As a Packers fan who's used to their GM's idea of building a team, I can't fathom paying big bucks to a QB who's on the downside of his career and who could be one good hit away from having to retire for good.

Then again, as high-risk/high reward scenarios go, this is a great example of one.

I honestly think Rodgers is a MUCH better QB for having associated with Mr. Mayfinallybeinpermanentretirement. A Tebow with a year or so watching some of the nuances of experience would certainly be less dramatic but steadier than the man of the last five games of last year. Don't know if he would accept the demotion with a good attitude though.

I don't know why he wouldn't. Everything we've seen from Tebow has been humble and good-natured, and all evidence seems to indicate that he would at least publicly display the "I'll do what they tell me and whatever's necessary for the good of the team" attitude.

I mean, of all players, he is the last one I could see displaying any kind of sour grapes or diva attitude.

While Tennessee fans would love to have Payton at the Titans, the UT fans would much rather have him at UT. He could do no wrong in most fans eyes. After the pretty boy up and quit it was discussed at length on several talk radio stations about getting Payton here as coach.
Note. I'm neither a UT nor Titan fan. I back the Patriots and my alma mater disbanded their football team several years ago.

Multiple reports from people who know of what they speak say Manning IS in fact coming to Denver.

Supposedly he has already personally called both the Titans and 49ers to say "thanks but no".

Broncos will try to trade Tebow immediately after getting Manning signed, according to these reports. I do think the likely destination is going to be Jacksonville, as he is revered in that state much as Mr. Elway is revered here (man could be Govenor and Illustrious Potentate of a new religion like THAT), and the new Jax owner loves Tebow and more importantly loves it when people attending the games don't come disguised as empty seats.
