  • Smoking

Well, I am down to one pack of cigarettes, and the e-cig starter kit that I bought yesterday. I am slowly smoking what's left of the regular ones (currently in my fourth in almost 24 hours), and using the e-cig between them.

Reasons :Our campus went completely smoke-free (even in cars), smoking during clinicals next term is not allowed at all by our program, cost, and frankly I was having issues with the "smokers cough".

Anyone else here switch over? If so, what challenges can I expect?

Hubby switched over a year ago and has now totally quit using the e-cig. His Doctor is very pleased with how his lungs are sounding

Just to keep this on track - Please lets not get into how awful smoking is and/or the laws and rules surrounding smoking bans.

Congrats to you, Lyse. Great job. It's hard, but it's worth it. After the first couple of weeks, my physical withdrawls were gone. That was the worst part.

Go Lyse Go! I hope some quitters chime in. I'd love to hear some feedback for my upcoming stoppage.

Good luck with it...just don't do what one of my co-irkers did and flick the e-cig out of the car window.

How does that work anyway? With an E-Cigg, you're STILL smoking so just how exactly does it make u quit? I'm curious.

I've already caught myself trying to flick the ashes off the end :-)

Basically, I am able to get the nicotine and the motions. The smoke and everything that goes with it, though, are not a factor in e-cigs. As you use them, you can step down the amount of nicotine in them to zero to wean off. I have full nicotine - but I've been smoking full flavor for over 20 years.

I went with one that makes the cartridges (nicotine, glycerol, and favors) here in the states in an FDA monitored facility. Not sure I want to deal with loading my own cartridges, and I am leery of ones made without oversight.

One thing I've already noticed: since there isn't any smoke or smell, I use the e-cig inside; I use it more often then I would go outside for a cigarette, but I'm taking less drags. After all, it's not like I have to worry about "wasting" a cigarette by tossing it after three drags.

My next class is on Tuesday - I anticipate being fully on e-cigs by then. The last few regular cigarettes I smoked, I didn't really enjoy as much by the end of them. Too much at one sitting.

There is a different physical routine that you get into with an e-cig than with normal cigarettes, and weaning yourself from the Pavlovian responses engendered by that routine is helpful.

Plus, you can utterly control your nicotine intake, so you can wean yourself off of the purely chemical side of the dependency.

                  ....

On the topic of e-cigs themselves, watch how others around you deal with the vapors. I seem to have a sensitivity issue with nicotine that isn't terrible with actual cigarettes, but with the e-cigs, I start having a hard time not coughing and wheezing, but I don't have any allergy issues.

My mother and aunt are both using them, now, after smoking for 45 years. When they came to visit I started having some problems with breathing. I thought it was because I was coming down with something, but when I ended up taking a trip with my mom and she popped her e-cig in, it became quite obvious that the problem wasn't me getting sick.

It's worth noting that my front room is about 30 feet long and we were at opposite ends, and it still had a notable effect on me.

                  ^-.-^

Andara - thanks for the heads up about the vapor. Only one of my roommates is a non-smoker, and he hasn't mentioned anything when I use it in our (small) living room, and neither of the others have mentioned a reaction to the vapor, so I lucked out there.

I've done the e-cig thing before. It's NOT smoking it's vaping. There is no heat and nothing is on fire. But it does give you the actions of smoking which help a lot.

It sounds like it's Blu. It's what my bf and I use (I don't smoke... er.. well I never smoked a real cigarette, I just use the blus when I need a stimulant boost - 'cos I hate coffee - surprisingly not addicted.)

Yeah, he almost threw the battery out the window, luckily he had it closed and the battery tinked off the glass.

Yeah - its the Blu brand. The online reviews are mixed, with some people being absolutely rabid against them. But on the moderate side, some of the people that stated they later went with a different brand had positive thing to say for Blu as a way to initially get off regular cigarettes. And of course, there's always the fans.

Frankly, the convenience was what got me. I was down to the last pack of smokes, and realized that I could get the starter kit at the local drug store and a pack of cartridges for just about 10 bucks more than a new carton of cigarettes. Plus, finding the cartridges locally is easy so I don't have to worry about ordering online and hoping they get here before I run out.

Still have some of the last pack left - and I was up to a pack/pack and half a day.

Ooh I'm jealous Lyse, I have to import my nicotine and hardware. No popping off down to the shop to refill my stash I have to buy and import in 3 month bulk lots.
I've been vaping and mixing my liquids for a year and a half now, welcome to the club of more $$ in the back pocket and happier lungs!!!
